The better your conference does the more benefit of thew doubt you get in polls and possible playoff selection.

If the SEC champ got its arse whipped in the playoff or Sugar every year eventually the SEC would be viewed as a weaker P5 than others.

Had the ACC been cleaning up in their bowls the last 10 years UNC would have had a legit chance to make the playoffs instead of having to destroy Clemson while hoping Stanford lost.

Not sure why this concept is lost on so many here.

I see how an SEC win means better respect for the conference champ from other years.

I don't think it is lost on people. You hit the nail on the head in terms of politics.

I think some are just tired of the Aggie sycophantic "SEC!" attitude that the current system kind of fosters.

Unless you want a repeat of a deserving SEC Conference team being left out, we should all want the conference to be strong.

Why wouldn't I pull for LSU, or Ole Miss when they play some big 12 or 10 team? It only makes my team look better if they win.

The only exceptions I have is Tenn and aubbie. I would never pull for them. But other than that, I pull for every SEC school when they play OOC or in a bowl.

Because having a weak conference hurts your team's chances in the future.

All you can do is play the teams on your schedule. If the teams on your schedule is perceived as weak, it hurts YOU. This will keep many teams out in the future. Perceived conference strength.

If Bama gets beat in the playoffs...it will hurt the SEC for next year.

It would be dumb to root against your conference against ooc opponents.

These are strange comments from LSU. Considering perceived conference strength was the only reason they won either recent championship.

I pull for the teams I want. I don't care if they're in the SEC or not.

It's not about cheering for another team, it is about us claiming to be better than other conferences.

Bama proves it year in and year out. The others schools in this conference are shite lately. You have done nothing to help this conference's rep.

If you guys notice, most ppl who are saying they dont cheer for the Conf teams are fans of teams who would never be in position to play for a NC

So ofcourse this concept is lost on them

Nah, from a logical perspective, you should want your conference to be stronger, because that means if you succeed in your conference, you're badass. SEC has been weaker this year, true, but for example, say South Carolina beats Alabama next year. (Hypothetically speaking, I don't think we play South Carolina.) That would make you super elated and feel accomplished, but why? Because of the identity Alabama has in the SEC, AND outside of the SEC. See how that works? If you beat a team that beat another conference champ, that is an indication that your team is actually somewhat legitimate.

It used to make sense back in the days of the BCS where a team could get left out if their conference appeared weak.

How has that changed?

2 times the number of teams getting in the playoffs.

IF you are a good team you'll get in.

It may be stupid, but I am right bright and I will damned sure be pulling for Bama. Never cared much for Oklahoma because of its Clemson-like cheating.

And while Dantonio is one of Jim's boys, and a guy I liked, piss on him. Only Southern schools I won't pull for in the playoffs are located in the the ACC.

there are 5 P5 conferences and 4 playoff spots so it does not hold true that simply being good will get you in.

If Alabama, Ohio State, Oregon, Florida State, OU, and Notre Dame all go undefeated who gets in?

Odds are the Big 10, SEC, and Pac 12 are in regardless b/c of the perceived strength of the respective conferences. This year the Big 12 team would probably be the one that got left out first and then it would be between FSU and ND w/the one w/the perceived tougher schedule getting in. Since the ACC gets looked at as a weaker conference ND would likely go in over FSU due to their games against Stanford and USC giving them a bump over the Noles.

Sec loss in first round again = SEC devalued. Next year, your team is 11-1 SEC champs. 1 loss ACC, Big 10, big 12, pac 12. Your team is left out at #5.

Will this happen next year? Probably not, but if the trend continues, it will certainly hurt all SEC teams.

it hurts the entire conference when the other teams lose, and it goes further, right now Espin treats the SECN like a dam joke.

Some of these dumbfuks need to wake up and realize what's going on.
