If you guys didn't have those bad ooc losses (they were cos of injuries right?), you guys would be a lock for the tourney I think.

Your right tbird ...grant is not the problem. Gottfried won before Bama and seemed much improved after he left. It's a cultural issue. We are so preoccupied with football, I think our basketball players sense it and we seem to make our basketball coaches worse. Sadly, Alabama basketball is the equivilant of Kentucky football.

We dont have any bad OOC losses. We lost @ Boise State and @ Marquette. Anthony Hickey was suspended for a half against Boise State. We were at full strength @ MArquette and lost by 4.
Problem is we have bad IN-conference losses against AU, USC and UGA...and on top of that dont have enough quality wins to hang our hat on.
Perfectly good year considering our circumstances though. You know your coach is doing a good first year job when he has them much better than expected with a good brand of basketball to watch with still a mostly untalented team.

You're lucky that ya'll have Grant, I still don't see why he came to Alabama. Basketball will always be over shadowed by Football. Can't even sell out yalls tiny arena. Plus Bama has one of the ugliest/worst arena's in the SEC. Damn you gumps are delusional.

LSU hasn't beat ANYONE this year. Plus they had by far the easiest SEC schedule among SEC teams.

Maybe Grant is doing as well as anyone could with Bama; if you look at the last 40-odd years, there's not too much of a higher level achieved by anyone.
LSU historically is a better program. Brown had a slew of teams that went to the tournament and had a number of All-Americans; Brady followed that with a stretch of conference MVPs and Freshmen of the Year guys who led to more tournament appearances. Johnson was a terrible fit, but Jones might be following the same script Brown and Brady did.
Bama best has usu been bubble teams. You've never had the great "we shoulda won that year" team like we did with Shaq and CJ, instead you had teams with Horry that you were happy at 20 wins and an invite.
If you look at schools that can be great at both football and basketball, it seems like Fla is the only one in the SEC (and that's fairly recent for both cases, their history in both is pretty mediocre). Arky and LSU would be the next level (LSU having the edge in football and Arky in basketball, both due to titles but not much otherwise), and then you get Bama, UGA, Tenn, Auburn etc that have flashes of both but never consistent in basketball.

Sanderson, Hobbs and Gottfried had periods where they made the NCAAT more than not. Gottfried most recently made it 5 years in a row. Hobbs made it 3 of his first 4 seasons. Sanderson is basically a legend in the basketball coaching tree at Bama. Dude seemed like he was in the NCAAT and doing some damage every year.

The student body, the city of Tuscaloosa, hell, even the whole state seems to unite behind football And almost will the team to victory. Basketball is largely a diversion until spring practice.

But this argument actually goes back to the whole "lol @ Johnny Jones" thing. Brown was LSU's bestest coach, and Jones came from his line... and seems like he has the Tigers on the path back to where Brown had them. He knows the landscape here far better than Johnson ever did, and what it takes to win.
Bama probably would be best served by finding a Sanderson guy and doing likewise, even if he isn't a marquee name. Winning takes getting things done, and getting things done at VCU ain't the same as in Tuscaloosa

Beg to differ..
Go back and look at Gottfried's road record. Its very poor. Road games were expected 15-20pt blowouts. His teams didn't even know what defense was.
Grant doesn't have the talent MG had here and by no means am I giving him a pass. I'm actually very critical of his recruting. I dont so much follow the recruiting like I should anymore, I just evaluate what I see once they step on campus. I do think that developing players has been an issue too but he has recruited too many raw players...taken too many chances.
Gottfried was an amazing recruiter and he snagged some really good players. Grant, IMO, has not. BUT, he has done a good job with the talent he has on the floor right now...
I'd rather lose with effort and defensive play than watch an athletic, talented team that plays no defense lose.

I can't get over what an idiot you are. This has nothing to do with your opinions and everything to do with the way you voice them. You're like Peej Jr.
