look at recruiting.

Like it or not, Jones is the better coach.
lol based on what?

For example, and I know this is something you understand, look at recruiting.
Grant is a good recruiter. He has proven that. Our highly rated players were overrated, plain and simple. They are great defensive players, but they cannnot dribble or shoot the ball. Every now and then they show flashes of offensive talent, but that does not get the job done.

Doesn't really mean anything.
Uh, yes it does. It means Grant was not only easily replaceable at his mid major, he got replaced by someone who is doing even better than he was. He isn't a good coach.

Maybe, but that is very easy to just say.
Maybe? Well, not trying is certainly the easy thing to do. As long as you can accept Bama being in mediocrity all the time under him I guess.

Johnny Jones? What exactly has he done at LSU this year? Yall will probably make it the NIT. If that is the success you are looking for, then okay, but that is a horrible example in the context of this conversation.
LSU was picked 11th in the conference this year after losing SIX scholarship players from last year and Trent Johnson leaving Johnny Jones with 1 committed player for this year. Jones went out with what little time he had and got a rag tag group of guys to come in who have helped us get to much better than 11th in the conference currently and on top of that has one of the top recruiting classes in the nation for next year including 3 Top 75 players in the country and a top JUCO.
Everyone expected LSU to be downright awful this year and here we sit with 9 scholarship players and a Tuba player right alongside Grant's 4th year team.

He has done well, but check out LSU's class this year, it's one of the top rated classes in the county, it's not just "very well" it's incredible.

there isn't a single LSU fan satisfied with the NIT, but the fact that we started two guards under 5'10 and a tuba player is what we're so impressed about. I doubt Anthony Grant's style of play would have gotten this team to the postseason.
Grant has recruited pretty well, yes, but he's never had a class as highly rated as this incoming LSU class....and it's year one. Jones has awesome connections, along with his assistants.
Now I'm not saying he's better than Grant, but if he keeps the program growing at the rate we are now, then yeah, he'll surpass grant pretty quickly. We're going to have an awesome blend of young talent and veterans if O'bryant comes back
Early on, he really reminds me of Hugh Freeze. This is his dream job; he does more with less; he has an exciting style of play; and he has a ton of connections.

Eventually this goes on coaching, not every top rated player you get can be a bust.

Shaka Smart being a good coach has nothing to do with out current situation.

Not trying? What are you even talking about? I don't want to accept mediocrity, but I also don't want to take a chance on someone that will take us back to the end of MG's last few years.

So what did that get yall? An NIT birth? Congrats.
Like we have already said, Grant has recruited well.

This is a fair statement.

Could we afford to bring in a great coach to build it up into something good so that fans would actually care?
Honestly Grants the best we can do. We're kinda stuck. If we keep him we're gonna have performances like today, with maybe a few big wins and a couple of tourney appearances, but that's about it. Nothing major. But if we let him go, we won't hire anyone nearly as good, and we end up in a worse spot than we are in now.

Miami is ranked in the top 5. You don't have to be a traditional basketball power to be competitive every now and then. What frustrates me is how lost and inept they look on offense

He was replaced with someone better at VCU. I think Bama can do much better. There are much better coaches out there, and for cheaper. Look at how cheaply LSU got Johnny Jones for.
Are you seriously implying lsu has a good basketball team??

If you cant see the connection to Grant leaving and the program left behind getting better then you're just covering your eyes at this point.

So you'd rather keep him instead of trying to do better. That's accepting mediocrity.

Stop being stupid. Re-read what I posted and try again there.
LSU was supposed to be downright terrible this year. Jones walked into a no-win situation and turned it into a team who plays hard, is fun to watch and is doing something NOBODY expected which is finish with close to 20 wins and get some postseason tourney berth.
Trent Johnson left him with 5 scholarship players (of which 1 has been out most of year) and 1 commit (with most guys off the board by the time JJ got here). That's Mississippi State level bad. We are starting a walk on at center, that's how bad of a team Johnny Jones got left with. Yet we split with you guys and we'll end up in the same tournament when you guys should be doing much more.

And yes we have agreed, but he never has pulled a class as good as the one JJ has coming in. Go check it out. THREE Top 75 players in the country.

This, it's sad any Bama fan thinks they cant do any better than Grant. Jim Larranaga is making almost half what Grant is and has Miami in line for a 1 or 2 seed.

This does not make him a better coach. If you cannot see that, then you are just covering your eyes.

Dude, you don't get it. Of course you can always do better unless you have a Coach K, but it just is not worth risking our team getting even worse.

I know one thing...LSU is ten times more fun to watch under Jones than it was under TJ..
Not saying much.
Not saying much.

I never said JJ was a better coach, so dont try and pin that on me. I'm merely stating facts here. Johnny Jones as a coach is still TBD.

No, clearly you dont. You think accepting mediocrity and not even trying to get better is perfectly acceptable because "oh no we might get worse!" Who gives a shite if you miss on the next coach? It's not like you're any good right now.
You have won ZERO NCAA tournament games in what will be four years under Grant now. If you miss on the next coach, then try again. Obviously it's not an exact science in hiring a great coach, but accepting mediocrity is always worse. Where would Arkansas be if they kept Houston Nutt? They would have never hired Bobby Petrino.
