an organization that i was arguing for was the lakers
Our accolades and number of records against a much bigger field are pretty incredible
Yall are in LA and the pro's. Bama will always be somewhat regional and rural and amateur. You'll always get more love.
Don't be threatened by us.

St George middle school basketball is as legit as any other dynasty

Ok. Making the playoffs almost every year, when over half the teams in the league make it is about equivalent to making a bowl game almost every year. Which, Bama has that record for most bowl games and wins. Of course we've been to the most elite bowl games (Rose, Sugar, etc) too. As well as most Natty's by all measures, most 10-win and 12-win seasons and 25 (30%of all) conference championships in a powerful league
Bama has had 5 different coaches win legitimate national titles in different eras. 4 of them won multiple.
Your turn.

Funny that you would mention UT Women's Basketball over UConn Womens Basketball.

quote:which is nice and all, until the lakers have reached to at least the conference final or semi final equivalent in over two thirds of the playoffs they have qualified for. that has to at least account to a major bowl. the lakers lead in not only playoff appearances or playoff appearance percentage but they also lead the NBA in playoff series won, playoff games won, playoff game winning percentage, and playoff series winning percentage.

quote:the lakers admittedly only have 16 titles which is second to the celtics who have 17 but the lakers have played in 31 of the 67 NBA finals so basically half of all NBA finals have involved the lakers. and thats before we get into the fact that the NBA for whatever reason doesnt want to count the lakers NBL title or the fact that the lakers would have won the 1970 title if there were three pointers but whatever. the lakers do not have the most nba finals of any franchise however they have by far and away have the most nba finals appearances
As well as most Natty's by all measures

the lakers also have by the most wins and by far the highest overall winning percentage. they are also tied for most individual MVP recipients with the celtics

Remarkably similar.
But Bama is a university where athletes can only stay four years max. No long contracts. And football is a much more team-oriented sport, one or two star players can't make as much of a difference

The Brazilian National soccer team won 3/4 world cups between 1958-1970 and then placed 1st, 2nd, 1st between 1994-2002. They've also made the group stages every single tournament and finished top 4 in over 50% of the tournaments in the most competitive sport in the world at the highest level and stakes.

their federation is also in shambles rn and likely won't win anything of meaning for decades to come as a result.
and while, yes, Brazil has won 5. Italy and Germany have won 4, so again, as with Real Madrid, they're not as far out in front of the pack as ppl seem to often assume.

Dynasties come and go. That's the point. Their 72 year run from 1930-2002 was unmatched. They were also exciting to watch.

I don't think the World Cup, a single tournament that takes place every four years in a sport that is prone to random outcomes, can really be viewed in terms of dynasties tbh. just such a small sample size.
really bad point of comparison. for the purposes of this conversation, seems obvious that it makes more sense with club soccer.
that said, even if you disagree, I don't think Brazil is far enough removed from the pack as the other teams being discussed is I guess my main point.

and as far as "exciting to watch" sure the classic teams of 58-70, that's true. but, as is often discussed in Brazil, they very much abandoned their identify of playing the "beautiful game" when they won in 94 and 2002. they played a very cynical, defensive, counter attacking style those years, which they are still playing under dunga who is awful much to the chagrin of their fans.
the teams were still fun to watch because they had legends like Romario and Ronaldo obviously but the idea that they were playing the "beautiful game" or doing anything different than what the Italians were doing at that point just isn't really true.
anyway, whatever.

They won 5/12 world cups from their first to their last. They placed 7/12 of those tournaments. During their dynasty there was really nothing even close. Say what you will but with qualifying the cup is a 4 year long process.
Their is no randomness in winning like that.

well except for the teams that were very close which I already detailed.
anyway viewing world cups in terms of dynasties is very dumb as I said so I will leave it at that.
