I love it.
LSU's permanents would be aTm, Arkansas, and Ole Miss if we're going by like "traditional rivalries?"
Or will we keep Florida? Florida, aTm, and Ole Miss? Idk.
I would say Alabama, but they already are assured Tennessee and Auburn, and I'm not sure we'd be their third. It would basically be up to them.

Interesting idea on VOLS radio today re: divisions and scheduling
quote:
you can't have a championship game by NCAA rules
I thought the power 5 got autonomy that let them ignore these rules.
Nope. B12 got the okay for a CG recently having only 10 teams. However, don't think the other 4 expect them to remain much longer for this to cause an issue.

They changed the rules from having to have at least 12 teams to have a championship game so that a conference with less like the "Big 12" could have a title game... but that was just last year and I don't know if they're even planning on having one with the amount of following I do for them.

Still REQUIRING divisions though?

There's no way in hell that we would get rid of the WLOCP for a permanent UF/UT game. Florida has won the past 11 of 12 and that's the only reason y'all hate them, we've been playing them and hating them a lot longer.

Rule was perhaps dissolved for Big XII? I believe the requirement now is that every team play during regular season and the two best teams can then face off. If not all teams play, you may not be able to hold a championship game. Fact check me, because I'm not sure that's totally spot-on.
Rule was slightly amended for Big 12. And does require a complete round robin schedule if a conference opts to not have divisions.

That is correct

Lol VOLS/Florida at its peak was a much bigger game than WLOCP has ever been. I absolutely loathe that team and their garbage fan base

- Completely get rid of divisions within the SEC.
- Each team has 3 permanent opponents.
- Each team rotates the other 10 opponents, 5 one season and 5 the next.
- By doing this, every football player that stays four years will be guaranteed to play both a home and an away game against every school in the SEC.
For example, Tennessee's three permanent opponents would likely be Alabama, Vanderbilt and either Florida or Kentucky.
Even numbered years we would play:
Georgia
Ole Miss
LSU
South Carolina
Missouri
Odd numbered years:
Florida or Kentucky (whichever isn't permanent)
Mississippi State
Auburn
Texas A&M
Arkansas
The two schools with the best records at the end of the season will meet in Atlanta for the SEC Championship.
Would not work with an eight game conference schedule. Look again, do the math, you'll see why.
Just try doing four years worth of schedules where home and away games are balanced, 4 each, within the conference.
Then do it in such a way so as no one is ever overloaded or underloaded in terms of degree of difficulty on top of their three permanent opponents.

Yes, or complete round robin schedule without divisions.

I was just spitballing teams making sure they didn't play each other. Three undefeated teams isn't very probable but one 8-0 and three 6-2 teams would happen 3 out of 5 years.

At first I was not liking playing LSU instead of UF but now that I think about it a little more I'd love to be able to make a trip to LSU every other year.

I thought the NCAA had some asinine rule about divisions in conferences and conference championship games
If you want a Conference Championship game and the revenue that goes with it, you need to have two divisions.

The NCAA would be the least of our worries if we chose to do this. Why would they care if we decided to have a tiddlywinks tourney to decide our champion as long as the money keeps coming and they got their cut. That's why I think they would go along with anything we proposed, be it 4x4 pods or no divisions at all. They'd go along with it.

Alabama-Tennessee, Auburn, Miss State
Arkansas- Texas A&M, LSU, Ole Miss
Auburn-Alabama, Georgia, Florida
Florida-Georgia, Auburn, South Carolina
Georgia-Auburn, Florida, South Carolina
Kentucky-Vandy, Tennessee, Missouri
LSU- Texas A&M, Ole Miss, Arkansas
Mississippi-Arkansas, LSU, Miss St.
Miss State-Alabama, Ole Miss, Missouri
Missouri-Miss State, Kentucky Texas A&M
South Carolina-Florida, Georgia, Vandy
Tennessee-Alabama, Kentucky, Vandy

That keeps old rivalries intact, rekindles some slumbering ones, and creates a couple of new ones.

Give Florida: Georgia, Auburn, and Tennessee
Give Alabama: Tennessee, Auburn, and LSU
Give Auburn: Georgia, Florida, and Alabama
Give Tennessee: Alabama, Georgia, and Florida
Give Georgia: Florida, Auburn, and Tennessee
Give LSU: Alabama, A&M, and Arkansas
And let the rest sort themselves out. Hell yeah! Trial by fire baby. I guarantee that even with the Big Six playing only each other as permanent opponents (and LSU drawing Alabama and what are the other two most consistently tough outs) that the SEC Championship would still be some combination of Florida, Alabama, Auburn, Tennessee, Georgia, and LSU pretty much every year, with A&M and Arkansas making some appearances too.
A&M could play LSU, Arkansas, and Ole Miss or Missouri
