Interesting idea on VOLS radio today re: divisions and scheduling

- Completely get rid of divisions within the SEC.
- Each team has 3 permanent opponents.
- Each team rotates the other 10 opponents, 5 one season and 5 the next.
- By doing this, every football player that stays four years will be guaranteed to play both a home and an away game against every school in the SEC.
For example, Tennessee's three permanent opponents would likely be Alabama, Vanderbilt and either Florida or Kentucky.
Even numbered years we would play:
Georgia
Ole Miss
LSU
South Carolina
Missouri
Odd numbered years:
Florida or Kentucky (whichever isn't permanent)
Mississippi State
Auburn
Texas A&M
Arkansas
The two schools with the best records at the end of the season will meet in Atlanta for the SEC Championship.

Also this would keep 8 game conference schedules intact like the majority of schools wanted at the last vote

Makes too much sense. SEC will never approve.

Arguably the best idea I have seen so far but how do you balance those three? I think if the Big 6 had to be permanent with Big 6 it would be cool.

I could be way off base but I thought the NCAA had some asinine rule about divisions in conferences and conference championship games

Alright, let me run UGA through this...
3 permanent opponents would likely be Auburn, Florida and either South Carolina or Tennessee.
Even numbered years we would play:
Vanderbilt
Ole Miss
LSU
Kentucky
Missouri
Odd numbered years:
South Carolina or Tennessee (whichever isn't permanent)
Mississippi State
Alabama
Texas A&M
Arkansas
I like this. I vote for this.

Every big six team would probably have 2 big six based on preferences/history.
Something like this:
Bama: VOLS/Auburn
Auburn: Bama/UGA
Florida: VOLS/LSU
UGA: Auburn/LSU
LSU: Florida/UGA
VOLS: Bama/Florida
Plus the additional other team, like Vandy for Tennessee.
Whatever works. I think the big 6 would want to guarantee at least 2 yearly games against big 6 opponents for SOS reasons as well as tradition.

Rule was perhaps dissolved for Big XII? I believe the requirement now is that every team play during regular season and the two best teams can then face off. If not all teams play, you may not be able to hold a championship game. Fact check me, because I'm not sure that's totally spot-on.

I love this idea.
Give me Bama, Auburn, and Vandy
Give me Bama, Auburn, and Vandy

Who would be Bama's third? LSU? But that would end the series against MSU, the two closest SEC teams

Yeah I am sure LSU would want that

I think the Big XII got a waiver for a conference championship because they didnt' have enough teams per the NCAA's rules. Then, I think the other conferences had to say yes.
I could be wrong but I think that's what happened.
The only thing I've not liked coming into the SEC has been seeing so few East teams so far. Heck, we haven't even played Georgia at all. This seems like a very reasonable plan.

Interesting that all the big 6 programs play 2 other big 6 on permanent rotation, but LSU gets no big 6 and Mississippi St gets 2...why?

I would think Bamas little 6 team would be Miss State.
So, for Bama- VOLS, Auburn, MSU

I based mine on traditional rivalries and geography. The future shouldn't be based on the Big 6. Texas A&M has as much or more potential going forward than Tennessee and Auburn. You can make a case that TAMU has as much potential as anyone in the conference.
