Yeah I don't know why people call it a HS stadium. It seats 60k plus and was sold out today.

Just because there is a different culture in Shreveport doesn't mean it sucks. There isn't hate in north la for south la or it's people. However, south la people would give away their life savings to have Alexandria north annexed by Texas

Well, yeah, I was being a bit sarcastic about teh size since someone called it that.

Looked like a good crowd for a Monday night, better than I've seen on most of the bowls I've watched thus far.

And, if I'm remembering correctly, the past few years have given viewers some great games. Teams may not be thrilled to get the Indy invite, but it's better than sitting at home. And I know the Indy Bowl folks work really hard to make it a hospitable environment. Unfortunately, it's gotten to be a bitter pill for SEC teams to swallow. Think I'd like to get some fresh blood here over the next few years.

Maybe more people in this part of the state might venture out to see teams they wouldn't have a chance to see otherwise. I've seen Georgia and A&M play before and so have many of the folks around this area. I'd probably go see BYU play an ACC if only because I'd never see them any other way.

Still, it's stupid and sad, that the SEC and Big-12 abandon a nice partial conference border area like Shreveport, when it provides some decent coverage and exposure for their programs at their conference's borderline proximity, and of late on an isolated college tv game date.
I agree. I think both conferences are making a mistake.

I wish you were right but the facts are South LA doesn't even recognize North LA...Every weekend during football season there is a steady procession down south by North LA fans going to both LSU and Saint games...You could probably count on your fingers how many people from south of I-10 would attend any event in North LA...be it the Indy Bowl or a HS Playoff game...

The Gator Bowl will have an SEC tie in next year, I believe it is against a Big 10 team, meaning there will be 3 SEC-Big 10 matchups

I have a hard time believing that North LA will support the Mountain West or ACC like they support they have supported the SEC or Big 12

If they do it would be a miracle, Shreveport was swamped leading up to the game and the game was sold out and the stadium packed. Would be surprised if MW/ACC could pack it like that.

It's a trick to try to get La Tech into the Mountain West

All our tax dollars from up north go down south to "fix" their infrastructure they should be more grateful.

Whether or not the Indy Bowl committee works hard or not is irrelevant. The bowl annually is stuck w/ 6-6 or 7-5 teams b/c it is so lowly regarded. If the NCAA ever sprouted some testicles & put some reasonable limits on the # of bowls, this Indy Bowl would be among the 1st to fold.
Face the truth, Shreveport is NOT a touristic destination at any time of the yr, certainly not for a game involving underachievers. UGA didn't even sell out its allotment this yr. The Bulldogs always travel in large #s for regular season games. Let me guess, you think everyone deserves to play in a bowl, regardless of how lousy they were in the season? That shows how little you know about life.
Hey LSU GrandDad, if you think a bunch of late teen & early 20-somethings are excited about spending time in Shreveport, then you're obviously too stupid to operate a computer. I feel sorry for the grandchild who turned on the computer and worked the mouse for you to spew your drivel. I hope he/she wipes that drool off your mouth then changes your diaper ASAP. That's oviously why you're in such an insultingly cranky mood to respond w/ a lame-brained message.

First things first - I know exactly where the Mountain West line of thinking is coming from.

MWC 2 and 3 are:

1. Tired of playing in a bowl game before Christmas. Avoiding the REALLY early-bowl stigma alone makes the Indy Bowl a favorable move. No more Poinsettia Bowl on Dec. 23 OR... what's the Worst Case Scenario if you're Mormon.... drumroll please....

2. The Las Vegas Bowl on Dec. 22nd. For the past couple of years, BYU has been stuck with a Las Vegas Bowl invite. Yes - they had a ranked opponent, but could you imagine a less desirable place than Vegas for a whole slew of Mormons?

Shreveport still wears its Bible Belt proudly enough for those that are into that sort of thing... and for everyone else - Bossier awaits.

Which brings us to the ACC...

This year the ACC and MWC have developed a strange symbiotic relationship.

*Only conference with 2 teams ballsy enough to schedule TCU as an OOC opponent(Frogs traveled to both Clemson and Virginia)
*BYU played the front end of its home/home with Florida State.

All this AND they want a bowl tie-in with the Mountain West... That's sure is nice of them to show such interest, right?

WRONG. The ACC has a motive - to save their collective BCS arse.

It's pretty clear that of all the Non-AQ Conferences - the MWC is on the rise. So much so that the MWC greatly threatens to supplant the ACC's AQ status when renegotiation time comes around in 2014. The ACC is gambling with its future - deciding that some head-to-head bowl victories are necessary to maintaining their AQ status.

It will be interesting to see if the gamble pays off for them.

ETA:

TCU, BYU, Utah all travel VERY well..

Shreveport isn't bad compared to Laramie or Fort Collins in December.

Living up here I actually go to the Indy Bowl sometimes and I'm actually glad they're moving to the new conferences. The teams will be better than the bottom of the barrel SEC and Big 12 teams we always have had. If they got a better deal then good for them, but if the SEC didn't add another bowl then it's an easy million we will be missing out on next year for the conference as they stomped another Big 12 team every year.

Getting higher ranked teams should provide for better games. Might actually be entertaining and we won't have to listen to everyone cry about going to the Weedeater bowl anymore on the boards.

It is funny that the year they ended it they had the place packed.

People posting at the beginning of this thread have no clue what they are talking about...No its not an amazing bowl but its hardly a terrible bowl. The stadium was redone in the past decade and looks relatively nice and is reasonably large...Shreveport really rallies around the bowl and does a good job of promoting it locally...I dont get why people from Louisiana would go out of their way to down the bowl...its good publicity and its money from other states coming here...

Are you going to be in Fort Worth on NYE for the game?

I was curious as to how well AF fans traveled...

I'm just home from the bowl game. Drove over from Dallas where I live to go to this game as I have for the past 30+ years. Make fun of Shrevepatch all you want but I challenge you to call A&M or Georgia officials tomorrow to ask them what they think of the Indy Bowl. The reviews will be glowing. Everybody can't play in the Cotton Bowl. All the games can't be in Dallas.

It's a hell of a lot better than the Emerald Nuts in a Baseball stadium bowl that USC found themselves in this year.

Most of the people crying the loudest about Shreveport have probably never been north of Alexandria unless they were evacuating from a hurricane and think Oxford MS is 'high class'.
