They were. If Dooley had stayed another year, 3-9 would have been a very likely outcome for UT. I don't think they've ever lost more than 7 in a season. Right now, Butch is on the track he should be, but he keeps saying the same things about youth, and that's just annoying to a good portion of the fan base. They don't want to hear why they might lose, especially not BEFORE the game.

It is. I also think part of the reason he's saying it might be for recruiting purposes: "We're young, meaning we're going to play whoever the best is, regardless of how long they've been there."

But yeah, the youth thing is a little grating. That excuse HAS to go away next year.

that's the most retarded thing i've ever heard, not only Ed Orgeron was an awful gameday coach, his recruiting classes were mediocre, comparing Butch to Ed is just disrespectful.

Doesn't that backfire a bit though? If your team is young then that means you're stuck on the depth chart unless Butch is going to keep jumping Freshman over Juniors. He had to do it because most of Dooley's guys were trash, but recruiting based on a youth movement can create holes behind the initial wave. Or maybe he can pull it off somehow. We'll see, I guess.

Technically, at this point, you guys aren't even be in the same sentence as Mizzou

On an overall body of work, if UT is ever qualified to be mentioned in the same sentence with Mizzou, we need to shut down the program.

Mizzou couldn't stay on the field with Oklahoma or Bowling Green.

You'll see Saturday when UK gives you the first of several SEC arse whippings.

It was the way he lost in 2014 that in my mind would raise serious questions. Dobbs would have won him that game. I get the whole redshirt thing. Bad decision, IMO. Saturday is an absolutely must win for Jones, and it won't be easy.

Improvement under Jones? Yeah, right. Had nothing to do with Franklin leaving.

The issue is simple, can Butch beat great teams...because he hasn't really proven he can. He's failed so many times in big games. He seems like a decent program builder, but I don't know that he should be your end result. He's repaired the image somewhat, but doubt he leads Tenn to a title.

The East is down.

Mizzou won it two years in a row.

Tennessee needs to show something this year.

They could very well go 9-3 if they beat everyone left on their schedule except for Georgia and Bama. Alternatively they could shock the world and beat either Georgia or Bama and drop another game and still end up 9-3.

It could happen.

And if it does, we'll still say "East was down." But at least Tennessee will be back to relevancy.

Dooley was pretty awful.

He had me feeling like Curley Hallman may not have been the worst hire in my lifetime after all.

Tennessee does look improved. They can still have a strong year.

In 2005 Tennessee did to LSU what OU did to them....ruin a highly anticipated home opener with a huge comeback .... LSU never lost again 'till it ran out of fumes after 12 straight games with no byes against a good UGA team in the SECCG. It clobbered a ultra talented Miami in the bowl and finished in the Top 5.

Is UT that kind of team? Maybe we'll see.

I agree, I wish he had gone for an OC who we could've trusted to play call and run the offense. I think DeBord is a short-term hire. I don't see hom being here after 2016 (assuming Butch is still here).

I agree, people need to quit wigging out, I think the only teams that are better than us are Bama, UGA and OU. So 9-3 is to be expected, 8-4 if we drop one. Anything less and Butch's seat is red hot.

The UF game is huge. The momentum from that game could really help the rest of the season.

More about JMatt, ACS, and others being gone than Butch getting better. Although, that was the best game we played all year with Mason calling the defense and Patton Robinette basically playing OC and telling Dorrell to frick off.
