Yeah, they don't have those there.
Mountains, and doesn't TN have no state income tax? Seems like a VERY easy choice. Plus, I love Rocky Top, and they have the 2nd best dog in the SEC.

Id rather watch a game in Neyland than any other stadium in the world, and there's literally nothing anyone can say or do to convince me otherwise. So, its useless to argue that with me.

If Drew Brees wouldn't have flunked the Dolphin's medical exam then that statement would have been correct.
What shooting star is Tenn going to catch?

You're suffering from an extreme case of fanboy myopia if you think Saban is the only coach who can wake up a program with great potential. Sumlin did it. Petrino did it at Arkansas. Saban did it at both LSU and Bama. Both Spurrier and Meyer did it at Florida, and Spurrier did it at USCe. Hell, Richt did it at Georgia.

You mean besides the fact that we just started putting in the money required to win just 6-7 years ago? And has since led to a near 180 in our talent level and on field performance?
Sorry fellas, even if we have an average season this year the Gamecocks will be hanging around the top of the East for the foreseeable future.

None of those coaches won a national titles at those programs and that is the only kind of "waking up" that can have long-term repercussions. A national title is something future coaches and recruits, even decades from then, can point back to. It can redefine a program's ceiling. An upswing can be lost, sometimes quickly as in Arky's case.

True, but Saban might be the greatest college football coach of all time.

I think Spurrier is the example of what I am talking about. He won a title at UF, which changed the program forever and made it easier for Urban to win one.
Technically Tenn still has a little of that momentum, but it is fading each year.

As much as y'all want it to be true, Tennessee football is not dead. The fact is, our worst period in our history is much much better than most others worst period in history. Football is cyclical. Look at bama in the 90s. You don't have 104255 fans at a rainy season opener against a crap team at a dead program.

This is what I'm talking about when I refer to fan myopia.
I'll never forget when my cousin -- an Alabama alumnus -- emailed me that "Alabama football is dead" after the Mike Price debacle, which forced them to hire Shula. Fran had left them high and dry for a lesser job, they were on probation, and they'd before he'd coached a game and had to settle on Shula.
Fans can't see the forest for the trees and understand that "momentum" is essentially a creation of the fans and media. All it takes is a good coach, a foundation, recruiting, and fan/monetary support. Auburn had no momentum before last year, and suddenly they were a few minutes from winning a BCS Title.
Again, Bama was a mess before Bryant and then again before Saban, Florida was nothing to write home about before Spurrier, LSU was an afterthought during DiNardo's tenure, and Georgia didn't win anything during the Goof and Donnan eras. Heck, Texas A&M was a joke as the were coming into the SEC after the dumpster fire left behind by Fran and Sherman.

Columbia >>> Athens
Columbia:
Lake Murray,
3 Rivers
Golfing everywhere
2 Districts for Night Life (Vista and 5 Points)
Industry for Jobs outside of the university
Central location, 1&1/2=2Hr from CLT, Augusta, Charleston/Beach, G'ville, Appalachia foothills
Large military base and community
We have a functional airport
Congaree National Park
Ample Parking
Athens:
Closest City/Attraction is Atlanta...Atlanta....
Clarke County PD HATE the football team
Need a job after college, gotta go move out of Athens.
Want to go fishing?
Want to fly into Athens? Next Stop Atlanta.
Want to go boating or fishing, try Pond Chapman or the Barely a Lake Reservoir.
Want to walk in the wood? Scull Shoals Experimental Forrest.
I would hope that you'd have all that stuff in the freaking state capitol. Comparing Columbia to Athens is apples and oranges, one is a college town, the other is as stated, the capitol.
And never, ever call what Columbia has in Vista and 5 Points "night life."

I agree completely 1998 isn't 1978. Yall are close enough to victory to still be considered legitimate, and that is all you need to get legitimate talent.

Not much loyalty involving football in the state of North Carolina, fortunately. Basketball is another story. SEC Network being located in Charlotte also helps.

He was alluding to the late 90's and early 2000's. Regardless, calling UT football "dead" is pretty funny. The program is dedicated to winning, has the fanbase, facilities, donors, etc. UT will be back in a year, two at most.

This.
Tennessee basically just went through their version of the Dubose-Fran-Shula era. They went to an SEC title game in 2007 (Dubose), seemed to make a decent hire who brought enthusiasm but then got left high and dry at a bad time (Fran), and had to make a settle hire that everyone knew would fail (Shula).
Will Butch Jones lead them to greatness or even work out? Who knows, but their program will be in a *much* better place when he leaves than it was when he got there, and calling UT football dead right now is as shortsighted as throwing dirt on Alabama in December of 2006.

I understand that, but that time period was ugly overall for Bama fans. Declaring a traditionally great football program dead after 6 or 7 subpar years, and 2 dumbass head coaches, is just stupid.
