I'd go with Tennessee.
What Dooley did to Tennessee is like what Hallman did to LSU; brought a solid, powerful (if slightly faded) program to mind-numbingly bad levels.
The comparison deepens when you consider these coaches seemed most comfortable with an underdog mentality (we have to play at our very best to have a chance), so they destroyed the previous winning attitude (we can beat anyone, and should today because we're _____), intentionally or not. And thus created a losing mindset.
LSU recovered after a few years, and Tennessee will too with the right coach. I think there's a good chance they will win the SEC before SC does.

It's not my fault you're too dumb to avoid tourist traps. Southern Appalachia is the most bio diverse area north of the equator. People from the inland visit beaches? That don't mean shite cause Columbia isn't on the beach. Ask bama why they couldn't hire a good coach
Don't some people still handle snakes in Cocke County?
If I had my life to live over it would probably be in Jackson, or somewhere in Texas. Jackson is cool, so is McNairy and Crockett counties where I have friends. So is the Holston River area.
But Knoxville sucks and that is with a big "S."
You gave us the original country music and rock 'n roll was born in Memphis. You gave us Cracker Barrel where I sent some $15 back to Murfreesboro today. Total check was $24.
But the only good thing about Knoxville is that it is 275 miles away from me.
Believe me I know what the TVA is. It once ruined a vacation in Tennessee. I love the state, just not Knoxville.
Oh, excuse me, there is/was one thing: WNOX, a clear channel where I listed to rock 'n roll when I was a young man. All the way from Atlanta to my home.
I also think that your area once hanged an elephant. Tell us about that.

I live in Tennessee and there is nothing pleasant about Knoxville, TN. Columbia is within reasonable driving distance to Charleston and the coastline.
USCe and it's not even close. I wouldn't be caught dead in orange.

Probably Carolina, recruiting in the wake of Spurrier's tenure with a slew of players recently sent to the NFL has potential.

Tennessee's crown jewel is downtown Nashville. I live in Tennessee and am biased but I will take Nashville over just about any other southern city. New Orleans may have something to say about that. But no other city comes close.
Knoxville is a cess pool.

Charleston's not nice? Savannah?

Nice cities to visit, but to live in full time Nashville shits on both those cities.

See my previous post where I say I would rather be the SC head coach because it's close to Charleston and the coastline.

Oh, okay. Just took a look.

In addition, I think SC is a little more reasonable and willing to give a coach time because USC's history is not congruent with what Tennessee has accomplished historically.
With that being said, I think SC is a better program now. UT's historical dominance as a power school in the conference still seems so far removed from what they are now.

Agreed. I'd be willing to give Tennessee a bit more slack however, because I recall as recently as 2006 that distant memories of football relevance were all Alabama fans had left.

This makes me question if you've ever actually been to Knoxville and if so was that year 1950? Because it was indeed a cesspool then (Cormac McCarthy describes that time period of post-War Depression and villainy quite well in "Suttree") but it hasn't been one for several decades.
Knoxville will never be an antebellum city - it's different and always will be. However. it's no cesspool despite your repeated use of that term.
BTW, here's what an unbiased source thinks about Knoxville: LINK

I've been to Knoxville about a dozen times or so. I'll be up there for next year's game.
I'll check out some of the places highlighted in this article. Should be fun

^You'll enjoy it. It's not a big place but there are a lot of interesting spaces in the city now. Market Square and much of downtown has been totally renewed. It was dead years ago but it's thriving now.

Knoxville is...rough around the edges. I'm there every other month so I see it often. It has plenty of cool things, you just have to know where to go. As far the OP question, there's no way to answer that. People coach for different reasons. Spurrier likes to build programs, for example. There are plenty of reasons for a HC to pick Tennessee, and plenty of reasons for a HC to pick South Carolina. To say either answer is wrong is asinine.

I completely agree with that. Things are hidden from view in a lot of ways and yeah it's rough around the edges. I'm not sure the latter part will ever change no matter how much the city is renewed or what's added. It seems to be Knoxville's character going back to the days it was a hard-scrabble, rough and tumble, city not far removed from Pioneer days and it spent a lot more time that way in the time that followed than it has any other way. No matter how much polish is put on it that character will come out, imo.

And please tell the board where you live. Folks, it's a Columbia burb, with a gem of a golf course. Reckon you be the asinine one. :rotflmao:

I spend a lot of time in Knoxville, as it has some things that Chattanooga simply doesn't. That said, what you're describing about Knoxville could easily be used to describe Columbia. The city has changed so much in the last 10-15 years, that most people here wouldn't recognize it. There are some fantastic in-town neighborhoods, and suburbs are suburbs.
I'm not trashing Knoxville. It's a fine place. I'm simply trying to argue that Columbia is a great place to live, too.
