Saban will go against type. He will surprise both fan bases.

Les won't be surprised.

I don't know how I will be able to watch this game. I can't sleep!!!!!!

Saban can manage to spring a surprise on the fan bases - it won't bother Les because he does that regularly to his players on the field.

There is a whole lot of fail on both sides in this discussion of offensive formations. The sole purpose of the spread is to create angles for offensive personnel & to be able to get an offense's best players in space. You can do this out of 3,4,5 receiver sets but not all the receivers have to be wide receivers. An offense can use tight ends also depending on what kind of personnel matchups the offense is trying to create.

The spread is neither a run nor pass style but is used to fit whatever type of offense the coordinator favors to run. It can be heavily favored toward the run or the pass. NFL teams like the Packers, Patriots & Saints all run some form of spread style offenses on Sundays.

Just because a team runs out 3,4,5 receivers doesn't necessarily mean it has to be out of the spread. It could be bunch formation or stacked receivers where you could get a variety of anything thrown at a defense from that set. It could a run, screen, quick slat, curl or a hitch & go if the QB roles to the side of the bunched receivers.

I don't see Bama going 5 wide for no more then 3-4 plays max because they would only be doing themselves an injustice & LSU a favor. If they go 5 wide then TR has to come off the field unless that is they line him up at one of the receiver positions. Still in all, they would be doing LSU a favor by not having their best player in his natural position.

Alabama's base offense is the pro set. Two tights, two receivers & a back is what Bama will mostly line up in. That's their bread & butter & I just don't see Saban getting away from what they do best. Saban will not lean on AJ to win the game but he will put the majority of the weight on TR & Bama's O-Line. If it ain't broke then don't fix it & I don't believe Saban will be tinkering too much with what has gotten Bama 8-0 in the first place.

If five wide I'm thinking maybe Richardson will drop it. I like 5 wide better than handing it to 205-248-0773 I mean Richardson.
