You mean a spread isn't where you line up 4/5 wide to "spread" out the defense?

- 14 players have a reception for Bama this year
- 10 players have 8 or more receptions
- 8 players have a TD reception
- Bama does not run I-formation, except goal line.
- Spread is not the same as 4 or 5 wide sets.
- Bama has run 4,5 wide many times in the last three years. Sometimes to start the game and sometimes to get the offense a jump start when sluggish. Usually no huddle is also incorporated.

Found some youtube on bama/tenn '11 where bama is running a 4-wide (around time 0:40). 5-wide sounds very desperate against LSU D's speed.

If you think running a particular formation ~ 15% of the time is indicative of the overall offensive philosophy if a team, there is nothing I can do to help you. Literally every NFL team runs 4 and 5 WR sets multiple times every game. Would you put Mike McCarthy and Urban Meyer's offenses in the same category?

So did Syracuse.

It is utterly amazing how many people (not just rantards by any means) are clueless about our offense.
The I? We don't run the I. Never, ever, ever. We don't even have a fullback. The only power formation we run is 1 back with two tight ends.
Go back to the 2009 SECCG when we come out in the shotgun with 3 receivers (it may have been 4) and Danielson (who I usually think is pretty good) freaks out and says OMG Bama is in the spread.
Newsflash: we're in the spread quite often. I don't know, it must be the fact that we've had physical running backs under Saban, but people continue to insist that we're a "pro-style" team. If "pro-style" is I formation with two receivers then LSU is MUCH more pro-style than we are.

LSU fans.
Some of the predictions on this site make more sense now that I understand they've never watched a Bama game.
Saban isn't afraid to put 5 WR's out there. He's done it in several big games in the past 3 years.

Does Alabama even have 5 WRs worth putting on the field this year? I know you guys like to split a TE out wide..
Did someone really just say that Alabama runs the I? Good call ace...

Well, this thread just confirms that LSU has some stupid, football illiterate fans. 5 wide set = screens, slants, curls, and crossing routes. That is basically what WVU used to abuse LSU's secondary.
Didn't know that Geno Smith or someone with his potential with at least a year in the system as a starter with playing that style of passing had transferred to Bama.

A lot of LSU fans don't watch Bama games.

That's perfectly acceptable as long as they don't pretend to know the first thing about Alabama's team.

This is definitely going to happen.

There are many types of SPREAD offenses. One being SPREAD OPTION. SOME run straight SPREAD PASSING like Mizzou used to do with Chase Daniel and what WV uses now. 4 and 5 wide is a spread you out set/formation it does not mean you will employ a spread passing game all the time though. You know anything about Veer or Wing T??????? You know what came from those???????

My reaction would be that Bama is desperate.
We did it first play from scrimmage against Florida in the 09 SECCG. Pass play that went for about 20 yards. You know how that game came out.

If I'm not mistaken, we came out in a 5 wide set against UF in the 09 Championship game. I believe we done just fine in that game.

The #6 pick in the 2011 NFL draft. He was so open, I could have made that catch.
