You can't deny Notre Dame was an elite program for years. In fact they are still pulling in big recruiting classes. If you ask me, they suck on coaching hires for such a program. Pick any of top 10 coaches from Urban Meyer to Saban and they'd be a team nobody wants to face.

That's just a bit convenient of a cut off in that we have titles in both 77 and 73.

If you're going back that far, Oklahoma has 4 to ND's 3.

I almost agree with you about 93, but that loss to BC was very untimely. FSU would likely have won the rematch at a neutral site, anyway.

Corey Sawyer made me hate that FSU team.

Both are practicing Catholics and are the best coaches in the game. Would be a perfect fit. They'd be elite again almost instantly.

We had another team (93) that was kind of screwed out of a title

The only team that was screwed out of a title in 93 was Nebraska. The Huskers lost to FSU in a game that every bit as poorly officiated as the last Bama Clemson game. ND lost their shot when they flopped against Boston College.

I guess it's a moot point since we demolished them in the Sugar Bowl but West Virginia was also undefeated like Nebraska.

Sure - they're definitely an elite program.

I disagree with that. We kind of kicked their arse, and they were fortunate that it was as close as it was. I don't think most neutral observers would have concluded that FSU was the better team that day or any future day that season. We dominated them on both lines, and it took some Ward heroics to keep that game close.

ND will always be an elite program. They have an National fan base. I am a Irish fan myself. Now when they play an SEC team , I am kind of pulling for our teams but not really that hard. Either way I win in that scenario.

College football is better when the South Bend gang is in the thick of the battle.

Go Irish, especially when you play the BGTen teams. Always enjoy it when they beat Michigan.

If after Saban retires from Bama, he goes to ND for 4-5 years, that would be cool IMO.
Doubtful that it happens but if it did I would be happy for him and the Irish.

I will only add that I had no idea that Saban and Meyer are Catholic.

We saw what happened when Urban Meyer was presented with the option of going to Florida or Notre Dame. Is it that they suck at hiring coaches or that they aren't as attractive a job to top coaching candidates?

They were easily MNC calibur in 93 having beat FSU but the voters wanted Bobby to win one.

And they were screwed with the phantom call on Rocket in 90. Holtz very easy could have 3 chips at ND

How about a supposed "elite program" that has 1 National Title since 1969?

Stupid comment. Some people just should not be allowed to post. He picked a school to coach and probably saw bigger dollars. Kelly at Notre Dame is not even in the top 60 of head coaching salaries.
Also, the reason he is at Ohio State is because he was born there. He was a GA there in his early years. OSU was his dream job. Learn something before you run your mouth.

My point being, it has NOTHING to do with Notre Dame unable to be elite again. Top coaches go where the money is. ND athletic dept is to blame. It's a GREAT job for a top coach if they paid better and recruited top coaches.

Michigan MNC's before 1950 = 10
Michigan MNC's since 1950 = 1

Notre Dame certainly feels more elite than Michigan even tho both have 11

Notre Dame MNC's before 1950 = 7
Notre Dame MNC's since 1950 = 4

Navy is currently more elite than ND.

ND ain't shite and have not been for a long time.

Irish were in the MC game in 2012, how many other schools can say they have been there in just the past decade?

Michigan can not
Southern Cal can not
Tennessee can not
Nebraska can not
Florida can not
Miami can not

If you can sell out an 80K stadium for every game since the 1960's you get more street creed even if your last MNC was the 1980's
