If they're elite, then so is Tennessee, Georgia and Clemson

ND won most of their national titles before 1960.

Those teams have 20 MNC's, that leaves 20 more. Clemson has 2, that leaves 18. LSU has a couple, that leaves 16.

So ND has 1 of those remaining 16 MNC's. They are elite just living from way back in the past with all of their All Americans, coaches and Championships.

The thing that really sets them a part from the rest of us is their huge fan base. They are not just state, regional and national but even have international appeal. They have a huge following just from Catholics, huge. With the right coach they will wake up and shake things up in college football.

NCAA football is just more fun and exciting when ND is good. Dont get me wrong, i cannot stand those entitled, get any close call bastards. They are however the team I love to hate. I love hating on them and if theyre on tv im watching just to root against them. The only time i dont watch ND is if theyre not ranked

Because they'd won 10 national championships before 1978.

Notre Dame is a 6-6 team at best again. I know of absolutely no one saying Notre Dame is elite.

Navy is currently more elite than ND.

ND ain't shite and have not been for a long time.

Any time they luck up and get to a big game...they get destroyed.

Furthermore....it is an insult to the SECR to even mention ND on this board.

Might as well discuss the merits of New Mexico St.

The last 40 years as of now would include 1977, so that would be two NCs for ND.
I still feel that '77 Bama would have destroyed them, but it just didn't go our way in the bowls.

fricking Texas.

That's just a bit convenient of a cut off in that we have titles in both 77 and 73. We also had another team (93) that was kind of screwed out of a title.

But yes, I don't think you'll find any sane ND fan that won't admit that the post-Holtz era has been very rough for us.

I only think like the 6 teams in history are elite teams. Then to about 25 you can classify as good to great.

This guy ranked ND at #3. And has 141 'thumbs down' votes to prove it. Give him another one.
