Hart suked while he was at Mizzou

I was living in Hattiesburg when UT hired Tyndall. All the locals with whom I spoke seemed to know about the crap at Southern, many of them even predicted Tennessee would regret the hire sooner rather than later.

CM is a great man but has way too much pull with UA's basketball program and his decisions are questionable at best.

Schools like Tennessee and Mizzou lowballed Marshall last season according to them. UCLA tried to hire him too early.
We didn't lowball him. We offered high $3s plus incentives.

The roster Grant is leaving behind is a helluva lot more attractive than the one Cuonzo did, though.

Gee, the guy was once black listed from coaching because of shady recruiting tactics and indiscretions with the NCAA. Then he broke NCAA rules. Lied about them to investigators and Tennessee. Told a recruit's father to lie about it. And got slapped with a three year "show-cause". I can only imagine why Hart wasn't beating down his door to rehire him.
Which is probably why the OP said OK. Interesting shite if you put everything into context.

Didn't this guy hire Jones?
Doesn't the explosive success of that hire get him a free pass in all sports?

Oh if Butch Jones coaches the talent he's brought in, and Tennessee becomes what it was in the late 90s early 2000s, than Hart is safe no matter how bad other sports are.
Football runs the show at Tennessee, and that will never change.

And someone has to be down in the SEC when it comes to basketball.
Can't be having errbody be legit and all.
Although I do expect one/two of LSU, A&M and MSU to fail miserably in their latest attempt to be relevant in that arena.

the John Gruden tards
Gruden was probably the most delusional coaching speculation in SEC history. It sure was fun to watch it come apart on the vol boards with that insider dude who kept claiming, I mean right up till Jones presser, that Gruden was a done deal.

In fairness to Hart and CM, Grant was a "home run, can't miss hire" as stated by everyone.

There's no telling what the offer he got from Tennessee was vs what Alabamas is or going to be. Besides, timing is essential to coaching hires. Coaches can change their mind from year to year. Doesn't matter where the university is located.
If it was the same year and both were courting the same coach then you would have a better basis for comparison. Also, both schools might not be working with the same bottom line. Alabama is one more bad hire away from becoming largely irrelevant in hoops. Tenn is in much better position. Puts Alabama in a position to overspend to get the best available.

Greg Marshall is not taking the Bama job so the discussion is really irrelevant. However, Bama right now is a much better job to inherit than TN was at the time of Cuonzo's departure. UTs basketball facilities are superior but the roster situation that Tyndall walked into was horrendous & he did a nice job coaching them up but, if it wasn't for Richardson (best guard in the SEC this season) they would have struggled to reach double digit wins.
Bama has a roster situation that is much better comparably.
Losing - Randolph, Cooper
Returning - Tarrant, Hale, Obasahan, Kessens, Taylor, Norris (think he's going to end up being a nice player), Coleman

I'm not complaining about the coaching job that Tyndall has done, Vol fans understood that this was going to be a tough year.
The complaint is that hiring Tyndall has put us in a position to endure at least 2-3 more seasons that will be even worse than this one.

Keep in mind Tyndall also "inherited" Thompson (transferred to UVA), Davis (UTEP), Cofer (FSU), Austin (Xavier) and Chievous (Hampton).

He could not have possibly fricked this up more.
Or you guys could fire Tyndall right fricking now and make a run at Marshall. Maybe Tenn would be more attractive since it's a bball school and not a football school like Bama.
