Didn't LSU only have a 9-3 record with Zach Mettenberger a couple years ago? Their defense would probably start to suck once their QB play gets better.

I like to think I have a strong imagination but visualizing this hypothetical is proving difficult.

True. That defense was terrible. If Chavis didn't have the talent to work with, he could not produce and that was the year after 7 Jrs. went early to the NFL.

We can't seem to get it all together at once, it seems. Just shows how hard it is to win consistently in the SEC, which is why Alabama deserves a lot of credit.

I know what most LSU fans think already. They see the overall talent of the whole team and know that the team can be good if a few areas improve.

There's a big gray area with LSU. You have top shelf talent, Cameron is a damn good coach, Les meddles too much with the offense and he's stubborn as hell.

LSU will never be terrible with the talent y'all bring in, just won't happen. But LSU fans patience has to pretty thin right now - y'all have regressed in SEC play the last few years, that pisses off the fans and Les "should" feel some heat because of it.

All of that is true too. There are rumblings coming from the Ponderosa that Brandon Harris is inching closer to the starting spot. He has the talent and the arm. He just has to take control of the position. I think that Les knows that there has to be marked improvement this year or the seat will start to get hot. 2011 is getting longer and longer ago and that is the last time that LSU was really dominant.

I think that you are right about all of that.

9-3 or 10-2 is the most reasonable prediction.

Mine too, unless AJ finally learns how to play QB. The rest of the offense is as good as it has ever been at LSU.

The defense is still an unknown, but Yaw Yaw could have a huge impact on it. We still have one of the most talented secondaries in the nation, very good interior D-linemen and linebackers. The DE's are the big questions.

Should be 192 yds per game. Even I think you go to a bowl. Last year you had 162 per game. Will one more pass completion per game make that much of a difference?

If we win less than 8 games and still look bad at QB, that could be the end of the Miles era in Baton Rouge.

I think LSU will have the horses to win the west this year...the run game and defense can keep them in every game. They only need the QB not to lose the game and just manage it.

Best case 9-3
Worst Case 7-5

LSU is one of those that has the Huge win every year just when it looks like an implosion is unavoidable and then has a head scratching loss (usually Ole Miss or Arkie).

QB play hasn't won LSU their championships. I don't know why fans think they need a Cam Newton. Defense, running game and solid as a rock special teams was the staple of those teams. LSU's championship years were guided by good, steady QB's that were effecient, not flashy. Mauck needed 5 yds he got 6. Needed a first down to seal the game, he converted a 10 yd out route. Mauck and Flynn made the easy passes exactly that, easy. They didn't turn the ball over and checked the team into the right play. Just moved the sticks and got first downs. They also played within themselves. Mauck could run the QB draw flawlessly but would check out of it when a certain D lined up. Flynn stayed in the pocket, didn't try to run, hit his check down receiver and didn't force anything. He would take 2 yds vs an incompletion or INT.

IF LSU QB play is adequate this year, how do you see LSU doing?

That's the big question and at least you qualified it with IF.

Right now it doesn't look like it will be. Neither one of your QB's could complete 60% of their passes during the spring game in which there was zero pressure.

I mean Nick Marshall wasn't exactly Mr. Accuracy but he at least hit 60%. 60% is kinda like the mendoza line when it comes to QB's. That's the threshold you need to be at to get the job done. Completion percentages below that are not going to cut it.

Harris only hit 39% of his passes in your spring game. That is god awful! And it wasn't like that percentage came from some small sample size that could be construed as an outlier. He threw 28 passes!

Jennings wasn't much better at 52%.

If I'm Miles. Harris would be my starter and we'd be going old school wishbone option based attack this year. Trying to get anything else out of the two you have would be wishful thinking.

I find it comical that most LSU posters on this site think they have such an awesome defense returning when they gave up 25 or 30 points in at least half their games against legitimate opponents.

ESPN rated LSU's defensive line as the 8th best in the SEC earlier this year and that might be generous. You don't have a single proven player

I see they moved your allotted internet time up for today. Good for you.

Did they move pudding time up as well, or what?

That's a pretty big if but those aren't unrealistic stats to hope for. That's a 10-11 win season if our defense is as good as it can be.. special teams will have to not frick shite up this season too.

You're literally making shite up. He finished the 2007 season with 11 INTs
