There was an idea that's not bad...
no divisions, 8 games, 3 permanents, 5 rotatating every year.
You play 3 rivals 4 times and every other team 2 times in 4 years

Top 2 records meet for title, it's buried in the. CBS article with a LINK

The NCAA would have to alter the restrictions on 12 team conferences. But it's not a bad idea

Nope....
Sounds like auburn wants to move to the East....
Missouri wants to move to the West.
Let them do it or don't.
Not LSU's problem.
If Bama, Auburn, and Tennessee can't figure out a solution, then don't make the move.
If we had a strong commissioner he could work something out.
All you have to do is switch Auburn for Tennessee as your permanant east rival if you are afraid of a "tough" schedule....
Or drop Auburn.

If Major League Baseball can make realignment work so can the SEC.

I agree. If they can put the Atlanta Braves in the same group as LA & San Fran....

Schedule would be horribly unbalanced. There's really no good answer other than to go back to 12 teams.

Yes there is....go to 16 with 4X4 pods & do a whole H/A rotation in 6 years (3 to see everybody at least once).

This idea STINKS because you will have to have umpteen zillion tie-breakers to determine who's better than whom due to the lack of common opponents. Divisions let you & somebody else compare each other with 5 common opponents.

ex.:
UGA (Aub., TN, FL)
FL (LSU, MSU, UGA)

UGA plays: Ala., Mizz., Ark., SC, KY
FL plays: TA&M, Vandy, TN, KY, Miss.

common opponents: Aub, TN, UGA/FL

Whom is better & why?

Now, do that comparison with all 14 teams.

Under an 8 game conf. schedule, this is forcing the Iron Bowl or 3rd Sat. In Oct. rivalry to cease. Really don't think any of those 3 want to make that decision.

Yes.....
No need to blow everything up or reinvent the wheel.
This is all about Bama and Auburn. Period. Period.

1) switch Auburn and Missouri
2) Bama continues to play Auburn and Tennesse
Or
3) Bama drops either Auburn or Tennessee
OR
4) don't make any changes!!!!

1 - We'll see (although don't think SEC will do this any more than splitting Vandy/TN or Miss./MSU by being in the same state).
2 - Only works with a 9 game conf. schedule.
3 - Don't think SEC is giving up cross-div. games.
4 - Kind of where we're stuck for a logical solution.

Tennessee and Bama should have to play nonconference if they want to keep playing each year. The good of the SEC is more important than one long-standing rivalry.

Auburn to east, mizzou to west, go to 9 game schedule, still only one annual cross division game per school.

Far better solution is two rotating opponents, only way I think a 9 game solution passes.

All this.

9 games no permanent opponents. I like to see the tigers play some others teams more often. If we keep one permanent then Florida it is. Other bama and auburn can figure out their own problems

Hell will freeze over before the SEC plays a 9 game schedule. Or do much of anything right. Those dumb sumbitches don't even know they are already playing a 14 week schedule and it's the 15 week schedule that needs to be made permanent.

Why should conf. teams play a non-conf. game?

Because the SEC does dumb sh!t that causes the following,"^ Alabama-Ole Miss game does not count in standings" to be found under the Records and Results of 1980 and 1981 on Pg. 144 of the SEC Media Guide.

LINK

Edit: FYI, in 1980 the SEC expanded the Six Conference Game Minimum Rule to read Six Conference Game Minimum/Maximum Rule. Bama and Ole Miss already had a seventh game scheduled with each other in '80 and '81 and didn't want to cancel the games.

Nah.

Auburn - Alabama, LSU
Florida - LSU, Texas A&M
Georgia - Texas A&M, Arkansas
Kentucky - Mississippi State, Missouri
South Carolina - Ole Miss, Mississippi State
Tennessee - Alabama, Arkansas
Vandy - Ole Miss, Missouri

Perfect. Georgia gets the long road trips to Arkansas and A&M, as God intended.

I'm sure Alabama would push hard for Kentucky and Vanderbilt
