No he shouldn't. Mariota accounted for 53 touchdowns, more than 106 FBS schools...That is insane

Mariota is the most deserving of the award in years actually and he's put up absurd numbers against decent competition.

Cooper's going to get drafted before him though so I'm sure that's a nice consolation prize.

Really? Because everyone is saying the Bucs will take Mariota at #1. Can't get much higher than #1.

They gave Tebow the Heisman for scoring 55 TDs, and he played on a 3-loss team (going into the vote).

Take away Amari and Bama could still win.

Without Coop, Bama would not be sitting here today with our 24th SEC Championship ~ we wouldn't be ranked #1 in the country and getting ready to play in the first ever College Football Playoff. Coop has been key to the success of this season.

The Heisman isn't an MVP award.

No way Mariota doesn't win this...thought Gordon had a small chance before OSU blew Wiscy up...Coop might have a long shot at 2nd, but I'm still guessin' he finishes 3rd, with Mariota winning by a large margin...and he'll be a deserving winner at that...

MVP of the country is the same thing as the ebst player in the country

and Ingram winning it proved the MVP role weighs on voters

Cooper doesn't have that Heisman moment that is needed for Sports Center. That is what College Football has become today.

You don't play QB, go 38 and 2, make the playoff, and not win the heisman

i don't understand all the fuss

This is a common misperception. The Heisman is awarded to the "most outstanding" player. Not the most valuable. Not the most productive. Not the most talented. The most outstanding.

The problem, of course, is that a player could be "outstanding" (i.e., literally stand out) for any number of reasons, including those I listed above.

In short, the Heisman voters can use whatever criteria they want because their sole criterion means nothing in particular.

Heisman is basically a QB award that on the slightest of occasions will go to a RB.

i think you're getting way too caught up in semantics. it's all the same thing. at the end of the day, the criteria for the heisman is the same as any other sports league that gives an award to the best player in the league that season

In practice, I agree with you. The RBs either have to put up incredible numbers, or it has to be a down year.

WRs have to do something else, usually on special teams. Defensive nominations are just a nod to great players in a down year.

It matters because this is how the Heisman voters are told to think about it. They are not voting for an MVP. They are voting for the player that stands out to them.

Those are different things. One means something very specific. The other could mean almost anything.
