Would you like me to link the article showing how one of little bear's companies was involve in insurance fraud, how one of his business partners got 15 years in the federal pen, and how some people think he avoided a similar fate only because of his last name?

If anyone should be in jail it should be Bobby Lowder for costing the U.S. taxpayer $2.8 billion dollars to rescue the Auburn football ATM.

Same strategy Auburn has been using to get Metro Atlanta kids for 30 years. It's just been expanded to Dallas, Houston, Nashville, Orlando, DC, etc.

I'm not an Auburn fan. I'm not sure why you keep harping on Auburn when you reply to me. Who gives a shite what Auburn does? We're talking about SPUAT here.

Because Auburn is the other large, public institution in the state.

So do you not understand what results-based means, or do you not understand that Alabama football was miserable over that time period?

I certainly understand it....but the dollars invested to keep UAB afloat would be better and more efficiently spent elsewhere....for example 250 or so teachers per year

Like basketball, something UAB could truly take over the state in, or at the very least the Metro Birmingham region.

Having "football" is not a requirement to have a close knit school with pride. UAB already has actual history in basketball. If they want something that their students and alumni will support they should take all of their football money and dump it into basketball.

Problem with this is then UAB has to be dropped from C-USA which hurts the basketball team immensely.

Ultimately I think it is a short sighted move that will hurt the growth of the whole Alabama university system in the long run.

Having athletics means more time spent downtown and more money coming into the city. More money helps create more reasons to be here (vibrant city life, new bars, new restaurants). That honestly affects people's decision to relocate to UAB for research, med school or residency. It is better to come to a cool city than a boring commuter shithole. Quality people coming in helps quality research happen and more research dollars coming into the system. Clearly killing UAB athletics will not drastically change things immediately but there will be an effect.

Whoa now boys, I hate Bama as much as anyone but there is no need to drag the Bear though this shite like a racist wife beating a-hole.

That is bullshite, He was the opposite of a racist, he integrated the SEC and forced it to happen by scheduling a game against USC in Bama to show all the rednecks it was adopt or get your arse beat. He was never a racist when a lot of SEC coaches were.

I never heard anything about wife beating so I call bullshite on that one too.

He also was not an a-hole, he treated people (Other than his players) of all classes, creed, race, etc well. He is the one that coined the phrase that it doesn't cost you anything to be nice to people.

Did they cheat, yes, but they cheated before Bear and after, that is just a Bama thing.

Yes he was an alcoholic but so what so were about half the SEC coaches in those days. He was a great coach and was loved and respected by most everyone including his rivals. (My father was a recruiter for a rival school and even he loved him, and enjoyed having a drink with him because he was just one of those people. If the Bama fans acted like him they would be the most loved program in the country not the most hated.)

As far as I know, He never got off on making people feel small, or less important. So leave the dead and the Bear out of this shite.

Junior, well that is another story those that know him can talk about that. UAB is a threat to USA and Troy but not to Bama, and it just look like a bully picking on a little player. Hell is LSU tried to cut out football at ULL or Northwestern, etc there would be freaking riots for sure. But Auburn is blocking USA having a law school or Pharmacy school so res ipsa Loquitor.

Wasn't Rich Rod Mal's guy until the boosters stepped in?

According to Mal Moore:

RichRod was approached and told to keep quiet. A meeting was set up for RichRod and the Bama AD.

Someone blabbed about pending meeting...ESPN ran with it an Mal never contacted RichRod and did not go to scheduled meeting. Thinking was that the leak had come from him and Bama AD was mad and felt like his trust had been betrayed.

(Story told by AD at a gathering later)

His recount of waiting in the road in front of the Saban's house in Miami, Saban's reaction when he finally was allowed into the house, the attempt to keep all of that secret while being recognized at a private hangar at a small airport outside of Miami was also rather interesting.
