No it's not. MM wasn't dead set on Saban, and wasn't all that confident he could even get him, but he was his #1 choice from the moment Shula was fired. Many influential folks didn't want to wait until after the NFL season and MM knew if he waited until then and missed on Saban, we'd be in even worse shape, so he got talked into offering RR. Truth be told, RR was probably his #2 man, so it really didn't take much coercing. Once RR backed out at the last minute, he put all his eggs into the Saban basket. He had no Plan B at that point.
This is all from a close friend that was involved in the process. But this is the internet so I don't expect anyone to believe me.

No, people in here don't really care about UAB's fball program, but that doesn't mean they don't think it's pretty awful that it's being disbanded like it is. I am beginning to believe two things about this whole UAB football mess:
1. If all the people who supported UAB football on the internet actually went to a game or two, they'd be financially in the black. Funny how people come out of the woodwork.
2. I think a lot of the fans of other teams are fearful of losing their future homecoming opponent on their schedules.

Blindly defending? It's a program that's losing $17 mil a year and really doesn't add anything to the university. I love Bill Clark and hate it for him and the players, but I don't have a problem with them shutting it down.

I will say something good about Bryant, Jr.; his sleezeball dog tracks got John David Crow forced out as AD at A&M (JDC and Bryant, Jr., are thick as thieves, and JDC apparently was a partner in this gambling business, which was the fig leaf A&M needed for to force out an incompetent jerk who just happened to have won a Heisman trophy).

If the NFL had a franchise in Alabama these shenanigans would slow down. How bout moving the Jags to Birmingham?

Agreed. That does not negate the fact that UA BoT is wrong for doing this.
