If AU fans love UAB football so much, why don't y'all fricking pay for it?

Because UAB is not an Auburn satellite school and the "fans" have no control over what the BoT does

couldn't give a damn about Alabama's enrollment. Auburn actually attracts a higher caliber of students if you by the high school GPA's and ACT scores of their students that is actually released by the schools themselves

Face it my little barner buddy, Bama is not just beating you on the football field, we are beating you in the classroom, we are beating you in the boardroom, we are beating you in national perception and beating you in life. Always have, always will be little brother.

What was that David Housel said about the Roman Empire? Guess Rome stuck around for awhile. Mull that one over why we play for another natty and you enjoy your trip to the Music City Bowl,

That stops them from putting their money where their mouth is?

All those "higher caliber" students that graduate from AU must have a lot of disposable income. If they feel so passionate that they are moved to type 15 paragraphs about the subject on the internet, surely they will back that up by pulling out their checkbooks.

When you look at the pattern of how the UA BoT has treated UAB and UAH, I think most reasonable people would agree the BoT is not a very good steward of its satellites.

I am not as connected to the City of Birmingham as some, but I haven't heard any complaints from the University, it's professors, the medical school, etc about their treatment by the Board of Trustees (it may exist, if so, that is a serious issue).

But if you are saying this based on the BOT not wanting to piss money down the drain for UAB football then, well, that's ridiculous. The argument could be made that not wasting money that could be used elsewhere at UAB is the very definition of being a GOOD steward. Football at UAB is so far down the totem poll of important things for the BOT to be stewards of and protect that it doesn't even register.

People go to UAB as commuter students, transfer students or for graduate programs/research. None of those options are contusive to a thriving football program. Find me one commuter school across America that has a thriving football program with a solid fanbase and nice facilities. UCF has some of those things, but they have a fickle fanbase that, while bigger than UAB, is still small the majority of the time. MTSU cares nothing about sports. Georgia State is a disaster.

Actually a lot of faculty and staff are concerned UA is trying to undermine its undergraduate program. Shutting down the Honors Program is one example.

The fact that UAB is what it is today is due to the good stewardship of the Bama BOT who placed its medical school in Birmingham and built what is now UAB

What is interesting to me is this board's sudden fascination with UAB's football program.

It doesn't shock me that you wouldn't understand why people care about this. Alabama is basically killing a football program in its state. Given your fans predilection for killing things that get in Bama's way, of course it would be interesting to this board.

If that is true then that is an actual issue that should be addressed immediately. And if it came out that Bear Jr or anyone from the UAT side was meddling with UAB academics in someway then I'd hope it was swiftly dealt with.

This football nonsense is just not in the same ballpark as that.

UAB is trying to change that. I agree with the perception of it being a commuter school but I am pretty sure for the past two years most freshman actually live on campus and on campus housing is at or near 100% capacity.
15 things to know about UAB

quote:

UAB is slowly reshaping itself into more of a traditional campus. The last decade has seen the addition of a large Campus Green, new dining hall and new dorms. The popular $25 million Campus Recreation Center, with such amenities as a swimming pool and a climbing wall. is seen by school officials as a tool for student recruitment.

So should all of the dozens of schools like this just abandon their football programs for the better good? I can't stand the University of Memphis (mainly because of their bball fans), and their football program's support is every bit as awful as UAB's, but I'd feel pretty bad for them if their BoT decided one day to just disband the program.

i have said it before, I am all for continuing to build out UAB as a first class academic institution. Give them more resources, new facilities, hire more professors and researchers, on and on....but this football business is nonsense and $75MM could be better spent to support those endeavors.

I suppose the medical school being located in vicinity to the most hospitals had nothing to do with it? How many hospitals does Tuscaloosa have again?

They moved it from Mobile to Birmingham long before the medical industry was the primary aspect of the Jefferson County economy.

little bear also originally made his money by owning dog tracks. I wonder how many colleges would let their athletic department be controlled by somebody who was involved in the gambling industry at one time. I bet not many schools would let that type of person run their athletic department

More than Tuscaloosa....I'm not sure what your point is.....the medical school was and is the University of Alabama's....what is now UAB developed out of that decision to place the medical school in Birmingham and build out UAB.
