The Hernan struggles are weird. I do think Houston has had some injuries and playing navy isn't easy since their style is unique.
Morris is a good coach but talent is pretty void at smu so weird seeing Herman get arse whipped. It could be all the hoopla that is surrounding him with Texas and LSU

i am just so shocked this entire board that revolves around LSU wants O to get the job
As for myself my comments were genuine, and I also added I get why it might be difficult for other LSU fans to want.
It would be a tough one for me, but I may at the end would think bringing in another top name might be the way to go, but Coach O is definitely showing something.
The man is good on the recruiting trail, he seems to get the best from his players and they love him. He looks to have made great strides in preparing a team for a game through practices, game planning, and allowing his coaches to do their thing.
Bottom line, has O earned the right for consideration to be the permanent HC?

Gene Stallings failed at Texas A&M and won at Alabama.
Saban was average at Michigan State, won big at LSU, failed at Miami, has been amazing at Alabama.
Pete Carroll failed in the NFL and won big at USC.
Orgeron failed at Ole Miss, went to Tennessee, did well at USC, spent a year in the NFL, and has turned LSU around.
I'm not saying he should be head coach. But, I'm willing to let things play out and not let a 3 year stint at Ole Miss 10 years ago dictate his whole future. Maybe he is ready now?
We'll know more at the end of the season.

Frankly, I think the entire conference is.

I think O has earned the right to be considered the top tier 2 guy. I only see 3 no gamble at all coaches. I think tier 2 is a crap shoot.
Fwiw this thread is more of what we need on the rant, less trolling more good debate threads. I like a good troll but the rant has gotten shitty by letting unfunny posters run wild

Gene Stallings is a great example

Player opinion of the coach is huge. Don't take that for granted.
I remember the last time LSU hired a coach that the players loved. His name was Mike Archer and that hire resulted in the 10 worst years of LSU history.
Just like the rest of the sec loved miles, they love O for the same reason. Because if he's hired, LSU will not fulfill their full potential.

Comparing O to archer is wrong, o to archer is more apt to when o went to one miss he was young and not ready.
Also comparing current les vs O is incorrect, O has a clear detailed vision of where to take LSU and he knows to let his high paid coaches do their job.
I'd like to hear outside of chip, Herman and Jimbo who is a sure fire success at LSU and why?
I'm not saying O will be great but you have to give it to him for having a plan, he just doesn't rely on players loving him. There is nothing wrong with players loving the coach if they still have control.

Yet they are doing just that since he took over.

I ddi like Miles. And he pretty much owned us. So my reasoning is not what you want it to be.
But I cant convince you of that. Everyone is so "troll weary", good topics can not happen here anymore.
I know very little about Herman. How would he handle a big program like LSU? Or Texas? Coach O has pretty much proven that he can get the players behind him. That is huge and I dont care what program you are.
If he can get the players and fans behind him, recruit well, all he needs to do is hire coaches who can help with the X's and O's.

Most of the people are over looking what O is changing and just claiming its interm stuff. It looks more like O is putting in old school U process and the same deal that Pete had at USC.
If we can't get Jimbo, Herman or chip it's going to be a big gamble bringing in someone besides O.
I'd lose my mind if it's Fedora

3 games does not equal several season with his own program. We've already seen what O has done with his program while at Ole miss. He may have changed, but he needs to prove what he's learned at a lesser program for several years. LSU is not a training ground.

Exactly, this is college ball. Talent wins ball games here. The X and O is great and you do need it but a good oc and dc bring that. Talent and process is how you win and maintain.
Da U of the 80s/90s combined talent with a program process. USC dominant run is talent with how they practiced and then the X and O to isolate match ups.
Bama now: talent first and foremost, then breaking the talent into how Bama does things
What always works in the pros doesn't work in college. It's a different balance

Who do you want if bringing the bank to Herman or Jimbo don't work?
Posted on 10/23/16 at 1:59 pm to tigerwith3
No and I am not suggesting you can get all you need from 3 games. However, he is getting the full potential out of his team right now and that should give him consideration. Not the job, but consideration.
I get if a top tier coach is available that is who you go for.

IMO O has laid out a pretty solid vision to the admin/big boosters.
What do I want to see from LSU?
Attacking fast D
Open offense that looks something like Bama. I want to power run on teams but I still want to be a threat to hit the deep ball and use a tight end as a match up night mare.
Keep recruiting at a high level
Of course win the west at least once or twice every four years.
I also like a coach that is open about his process. I don't expect perfection, even Saban loses one a year. I just expect answers when we don't win.

I'm with you. If LSU can't get anyone off of their A list, then I think O is at the top of list B if he continues in this fashion.
As long as LSU makes a serious run at their A lists, I'm fine with O. But if O is their #1 choice, I'd he pissed they didn't strive to bring the best here.
