I just got busy for the last like 4 hours so just now got back to check this thread and agree with pretty much everyone. The biggest thing that's bothered me the past few years that I would offer to the Fire Richt crowd has been 'who will we get that's better?' I'm realistic..we're not getting harbaugh or bellichek to come to UGA.

So I expect unless we hit a true grand slam with a proven head coach, we'll take some lumps in year 1. But like I said, even with Richt we're gonna take a ton of lumps in 2013 anyway with our losses and our schedule.

Sooo...I guess I'd start with Peterson, Patterson, and Holgerson. DH would get me unbelievably excited. For everyone on the Charlie Strong bandwagon, maybe I just haven't followed him closely enough, but the name has just never excited me. I think we'll always be capable of fielding a good defense (as long as we don't just hire somebody just bc he's there, like willie), but I want some innovation on offense for a change. Someone like holgerson or hell even give morris at clemson a look. If we're not gonna get someone who is just a complete, died in the wool defense guy (someone like a saban [not saying saban, just someone in the same mold]) then I want to see something new on offense.

Meh, kinda yeah but not him. He's never wowed me either, and let's be honest he's only been a HC for like 18 games, and they were pretty bad in year 1. Richt's first year we at least looked pretty solid and had a signature win in his 4th game. UF definitely looks solid right now for sure, and I DO love the way he can inspire his players. But you don't have to yell 'frick' all the time to do that either.

And besides, if we do fire richt this year (which I really doubt we will, unless we lost like 3 or 4 more games) I don't think WM would leave UF after 2 years. There are several other candidates much higher on the list than WM.

I wonder if Oklahoma fans feel this way. Stoops is a 10 win but nothing more coach too

this is a really good comparison, except that stoops has actually been to and won a bcsng.

He's done it in a weaker conference, and outside of that 1 win 12 seasons ago, he has gotten completely embarassed in BCS bowl games.

Don't be an idiot. Spurrier against Goff and Donnan has nothing to do with this.

And let's not forget why spurrier hates UGA so much..because we owned his little arse when he was a player.

Also I think I read somewhere that holgerson has a DUI so who knows what our admin will make of that. I mean it definitely SHOULDN'T matter...but who the hell knows knowing UGA.

If Richt had the same record but the conference was not ripping off NC titles right and left, do you think you would feel the same? Does the success of the other elite teams affect your expectations?

i really hope mcgarity could lead a completely impartial search that was open minded and knew the gravity of the decision. i honestly trust he would but you're absolutely right because someone within the university will inevitably frick it all up because there is some ticky tack bull shite like that. we are georgia and somehow we will screw it up. but at some point we HAVE to be due, am i right or what?

Absolutely. That thought didn't even enter my mind until you just posted it. I don't care what others are doing, I care about what we're doing. And it's not good enough.

Right on and good for you. I always dug the idea that "Great's worst enemy is Good." Can't ever be great if you are ok with good.

Oh come on...you lost me here....you can only dream of hitting a homerun like Boom. Our AD Foley hit paydirt hiring Boom imho....I was ecstatic when I found out he was our new HC. He is fiery and a very good recruiter and a straight shooter who doesnt put on a front. Believe me your arrest record will go downbecause he wont coddle players.

But this is all moot...you cant get rid of Richt..,you had the chance at 6-7 and didnt. You arent going to fire him if he is 10-2 or 9-3 and even if he loses another bowl game...he stays.

6-7 at UF after you have been there more than two years is almost automatically a pink slipper. But we dont know about that because we havent had losing season since 1979 in Pells first year.

Starting to seem like Richt will never win that Natty title - he reminds me a lot like Tubberville - always comes out flat at least one game every year to ruin great teams chances. I like the idea of firing coaches every few years - they are making too much money to lose like that.
