It took McElwain until he was 52 years old to get a premier coaching job. He's such a great coach and football mind and all.

This means less than nothing anymore. 78 teams outta 120 made bowl games, that's 2 outta every 3, 66%....

Not with our schedule, they didn't. We had one of the toughest schedules in CFB the past two years.

As for not beating anyone... We beat an SC team that finished the year ranked #4 in the country. We still need to beat more but it's not as though he's never had a single game where he beat a good team.

Not with the circumstances we were under. And had any one of those programs had the same issues they'd have similar results -- some would have worse results when placed into our circumstances. You're intentionally brushing off the fact that a Hiroshima sized bomb had been exploded over Knoxville before Jones arrived and we're still dealing with the fallout (hell, the last of that fallout was on display at the NFL draft).

The difference between MacElwain and Butch Jones are night and day. Butch is a fanatic on the sideline and screams at all his asst coaches within earshot...just watch the clips...he turns beet red and I always think of the Tanzania Devil and wait for him t5o screw himself into the ground. Coach MacElwain is a LOT more laidback and is thinking about playcalling....and he wont make the team too tight.
Butch is a very good recruiter....but so was Zook, who was the best recruiter in the SEC but had other issues putting that talent to use in games.

In all honesty it is too early to tell. Both have had success at smaller programs and what they do at the top level is yet to be determined.

Y'all are crazy if you think Butch has recruiting edge. Mac is smack in the middle of a mother lode of HS talent and plenty of them are Gator fans who have dreamed of playing for UF all their lives. He'll turn down better talent than Butch can get. I lived in Orlando for 37 years, believe me, I know what I'm talking about.

Mac by far. What he did at CSU is more impressive than what Butch did at Cincinnati.

I think he is a much better coach.

Why is this a topic of discussion? They're both garbage. It would be like Vanderbilt and Kentucky fans arguing over who has the better football program. The argument is fruitless because they both suck.

I'd probably take Butch as the "safe" choice, but there's no question I'd be more excited about seeing what McElwain could do.

What McElwain did at Colorado State is way more impressive than anything Butch's ever done

You can't undermine what McElwain did at Colorado State. CSU had 1 winning season during the previous 8 years before McElwain got there. His second year he led CSU to 8 wins and their first Bowl victory in 5 years and a 10-3 season last year. McElwains 2013 team was the highest scoring offense in the history of the program. The 2014 CSU offense had a 4,000+ yard passer, 1,200+ yard rusher, and 1,700+ yard receiver. Higgins actually had more touchdowns, yards, and a higher YPR average than Amari Cooper.

That makes me nervous because I know you guys have had plenty of coaches that suck so you would probably know.

Let's put it this way - Coach Saban went all the way to the West Coast to hire Coach Mac and won two NC's wih him.

That tells me all I need to know.

That 11 team with Bray, Hunter and DR was really good offensively, no depth tho. Hunter blew his knee out in Gainesville on the 1st play. They never recovered and the injuries racked up.
