Seriously. What I'm doing this afternoon, MILLIONS of people across the southeast do every Saturday from September through November. Every weekend.

Some people just like being on a high horse I suppose. I love to drink, but it's never affected my job, school, family, friends, relationships, hobbies, or otherwise in a negative way.

It should be a set amount throughout cfb.

It is self evident that the bidding wars have already begun even though stipends have just been introduced. Can you imagine where this will lead in 10 years? The elite schools will run this race until the term "amateur football" will longer apply.

I predict the evolution of two leagues. One will be comprised of the elite schools and represent the farm system for the pros, and the other will represent a pure amateur league. I predict the latter will be comprised of more schools because only a few can survive the cost wars.

Drinking is a fun thing to engage in while doing other things..at a dinner party, at a club, out for a night in the town..getting together with cheap beer for the sole purpose of getting comatose is no different than gathering with junkies to shoot heroin..just drug addicts (or those who will become drug addicts) feeding their addiction. Drinking, getting stoned, whatever should never be the focal point of an evening...when it is you've missed the entire point..

Problem is, you can't possibly do this without the addiction, and terrible problems it brings on. I didn't say that drinking occasionally and in moderation is bad...it's the constant and excessive drinking that the poster seems to be talking about that WILL destroy you....and most times you won't admit it to yourself until you're in over your head. I'm not trying to preach...only to warn, and I'm pretty sure it'll go in one ear and out of the other....but at least I tried.

Am I addicted to drinking? The last time I drank was last Saturday at the bball game where I had 3 beers beforehand. I don't even remember the last time before that I drank.

it's not the focal point. The focal point is getting together with friends, some that I see often and some I haven't seen in months.

if drinking like a heroin addict was my focal point, I'd report straight to my house after work and start drinking. But it's not, the focal point is spending time with friends. There will just happen to be booze there as well.

Peace WG. I don't want to beef with you or anyone here..difference of opinions are simply that. Hope you enjoy time with your friends, as we grow older those times get less and less, so enjoy it while it lasts. My post was made from the perspective of a 40 year old man and I'll stand by it in regards to folks my age.

thanks, was never my intent to get into a disagreement on the subject. My bff is moving to Houston in 2 weeks. One of my other lifelong friends has been in Europe the last 3 months and is back for 2 weeks before heading to Asia for 3 months. Another one just bought a house with his gf, and another is possibly moving to Portland in 2 months.

This will likely be the last time we're all together for quite a while. So what if we get blackout trashed? I think we get a pass on this one.

So you're angry we've found ways to legally pay more to players? It's not our fault your administrations are fricking retarded.

I believe that these stipends will not go into effect due to some ruling.

You're freakin kidding, right? No way Athens is less expensive than Auburn,Tuscaloosa,Starkville,Columbia etc
(with all due respect to your individual situation)

Athens is a defacto suburb of Atlanta these days and home prices are reflecting this.Compare home prices in Athens and Oconee to the other places I mentioned.

Vandy is the only campuss that I would asssume to be a more expensive place for COA.

You shouldn't be bitching. This just evens up that lotto schollie thing yall use for baseball,... which I never see LSU fans complaining about having that advantage.. Tit for tat. Get used to it. We gonna use this like you've used that lotto to buy national baseball championships.

My point this whole thread has been that housing costs in all legit "college towns" is going to be pretty similar across the board. Athens is a lot different than it was just 10 years ago but it's still a college town, that without UGA would be essentially dirt poor. Sure there's some high end luxury places in Athens, but there's also a crap ton of cheap college places just like everywhere else.

UGA isn't in Oconee. Nobody other than people whose parents are in Oconee are going to live in Oconee and go to UGA.

I know many folks who make the commute.Check out the ever expanding map of metropolitan Atlanta...no doubt in my mind that Clarke and or Oconee will be included in 10 years.Walton and Barrow are already in there.

"de-facto suburb" might be a little bit of a stretch but not far off.

Nashville is the most expensive city by far. Good luck trying to find a decent 1 BR place for under $800 rent around Vandy's campus. Most 1BRs in the Midtown area go for $1200/mo+. Nashville bars aren't exactly cheap either.

Why are the stipends different at the schools? Especially some of the bigger SEC schools.

They're based on full cost of attendance expenses (outside of housing, I think) set by the academic side of the school. State's number is bogus. Starkville is cheap, and MSU is 86% in-state which means the travel expenses should be cheaper.
