Am I the only one who thinks that going undefeated doesn't automatically mean you're the best team in the nation?

It shows how terrible not just the preseason polls are but the polls in general are for college football. The polls aren't really about who's the best. There are some obvious ones that even the idiot voters can't miss. However, with the overwhelming focus on losses, the polls end up being little more than a ranking system of teams with equal numbers of losses.

The problem is that wins don't really count for much. For a lot of teams, I'm more concerned about who they've beat than who they lost too. Sure, there are exceptions with the outsiders, but the difference between the outsiders and conferences with past glory and present misery has narrowed. I promise you an undefeated team in the Big 10 that wasn't on probation would be ranked #1 regardless of how terrible the conference is. We say Kansas State ranked #1 and their quality victory was...? *crickets*
