There was an SEC commercial back in the late 90s that listed the number of SEC NCAA titles as a bragging right.

About 40 of those were from Arkansas track IIRC, and at the time, that was more than any other "SEC" program had overall.

That was probably some older Husker who remembers the glory days of Dr. Tom, the Orange Bowl and the OU "Games of the Century".

Time changes people and institutions. Playing GT was a big deal for Bama at one time. Arkansas has a generational divide with the older crowd remembering the SWC and the Texas rivalry and the younger crowd only knowing the SEC.

I would imagine in 10-20 years there will be few Huskers that really care about the Big 12. In any case the OU game was never the same after the Texas schools joined the Big 12.

A&M definitely takes baseball seriously. The new Blue Bell Park is ridiculous and we have a trophy case full of Big 12 Championships (The Big 12 does play baseball). We are actually very solid across all our other sports. We had a point last season where we were ranked in every single sport A&M participates in and we have been in the Top 10 in the Director's Cup the last 3 years. Track and Field is truly elite. Women's Bball is top notch. Men's Bball took a dive last year but we had 6 straight Tourney runs before that. We are the odds on favorites to win the SEC Soccer Title this year and have been top notch there for a while. It was nice of the SEC to start recognizing Equestrian since we won NC's in both styles last year.

Still, the SEC is about football first, second, and third. Everything else takes a back seat. Until we win there the respect won't come. Even then we will never be truly accepted by some because we aren't a traditional SEC team and that's ok. I do think we will become a place that folks like to come visit just because we are a unique and fun venue and we take our football and school way too seriously.

I'm looking forward to the A&M/LSU baseball series. Talk about a regional type atmospere right in the middle of the season.

I bet Mizz still calls soda "pop

Actually if you are from the South (or Texas), you call a soft drink "Coke"

ie "Let's all go have a Coke."

The newbie Tennessee troll is gone, but I agree it's called a coke. What kind of coke would you like?

Nebraska's move to the Big 1G culturally is more difficult than either A&M or Mizzou. Nebraska really didn't play Big 1G schools often and there is little shared history. The only Big 1G state Nebraska touches is Iowa which is not even a typical Big 1G school. The other big adjustment for NU is they really liked being a big dog and they are just one of many now in the Big 1G. In the Big 8 they ran the show with OU. In the Big 12 they were the strongest school in the North.

Still, they made that move for the long term and it was a wise one. They will make a ton of bank in the Big 1G, far more than they would in the Big 12 and they will get far more exposure.

A&M obviously has a lot more cultural fits with the SEC including 2 built in rivals. Mizzou isn't as good of a fit but the Arky rivalry is already heating up and Tennessee will likely get going. Part of the state is very SEC even if it isn't all that way.

Thank you. Hell STL also have similar culture to New Orleans than any other "yankee" city with it's strong Catholic background and history with the Louisiana purchase.

WTF, if GT came into the SEC they'd easily be in the top half. Lets keep it real.

Does that include arky and USC as well. If not then I guess we will feel like SEC teams to you in 20 years.

I never understood the beef people have with Arkansas. They have a great fan base. Their fan base is up there with LSU, UGA, UT, aTm and Bama.

well, Arkansas still feels like a Big 12 school to me. so 20+ years for sure.

It's weird though, because USCe does actually feel like an SEC team.
