Being a part of the league is more than just football. South Carolina and Arkansas have both been competitive/dominant in other sports at times.

Obviously Carolina baseball, and Arkansas basketball. But Carolina and Arkansas have both had good runs in baseball and basketball since joining.

If Mizzou can have some basketball success, they'll fit in quicker.

If A&M can become a real SEC West baseball program, they'll seem to fit in quicker.

At least until every team in the SEC goes to both places, and they go on every road trip. May take 2-3 trips before it feels normal and becomes "tradition".

Arkansas still doesn't "feel" normal to me due to the splitting of home games. This leaves them with (at least 2) different "identities" based on demographics and location that it is hard to ever really understand. I guess you could call them an identity crisis. That's why I've been in favor(for a long time) of moving all their home games to RRS. USCe feels completely normal to me at this point, like a full-fledged SEC member, just took awhile to get used to the stadium being off campus...

TAM in 3-4 years of better recruiting. Mizzou? Never. TAM understands old school football heritage and southern heritage. Mizz is a lost big 10 team. I never wanted to invite them to our SEC party, I wanted West Virginia. They would have fit better. I bet Mizz still calls soda "pop".

Yankee go home!

West Virginia would crush Tennessee and half of the SEC teams in football. Never understood why weaker SEC teams want tougher teams to join a conference. It only hurt you guys. Now I can see LSU, Georgia, Florida, and Bama wanting tougher competition. But when's the last time UT done anything in football

ETA: My cousin had a show outside of Nashville this past weekend. One of the things he said is that you really couldn't tell the difference between Tenn and Missouri. So much for your "southern heritage" and "yankee" stuff. Lets also throw in the fact that the west half of Tenn worship yankee baseball(STL) state of Tenn had TWO minor leagues for STL down there, now only one in Memphis. Oh lets also throw in the fact that people from Memphis love going up to STL for games STL cards have radio networks in TN, etc. But then you talk smack....funny.

Best answer I've seen.

I think non-football sports will help too, as someone else mentioned. You get more visits with sports like basketball and baseball. Baseball is pretty big at A&M and it's a fun experience to attend a game. We're not as nice at baseball games. :)

When you finally have students who hate LSU more than they hate Texas, you'll know A&M is "SEC".

I honestly don't know if we'll ever get to that point. Even if we never play texas on the gridiron again (which I highly doubt will remain the case), the two schools are both too big for their britches in the most hubristic state of them all. We'll always be looking over each others' shoulders and celebrating each others' shortcomings.

I AM looking forward to their significance on our schedule being deemphasized more and more, though.

I don't think it will take long at ALL. It was a heated rivalry in the past. As much as we like to pretend we're oh so different, A&M and UT students are more alike than they've ever been. Hell, I'm a minority liberal city-girl and I had a great time and fit in at A&M just fine. That wouldn't have been the case 50 years ago.

A&M and LSU however...it will be about state pride. It will be about "the other." I think the hate will come easy. Looking forward to it.

Hope you're right And good point at having a good time at A&M as a minority. Even though my family's conservative, my dad's experiences were vastly different from mine, and I'm thankful for that.

West Virginia has a good team THIS year.....Tennessee has a great tradition PERIOD, we'll be back. ( May even be next year, as we'll have some real depth finally assuming we don't have people jump ship for pros.) I want good schools...because I like great competeition. Chooosing to add weaker schools to pad your stats is a Big 8-10-12 thing..

1.) West Virginia has a great Program.
2.) I like their fans. Good peeps.
3.) We could have a new Hillbilly feud....! Yeee Doggie!!!
4.) Visiting other southern Hillbillies over the damned snooty wanna be plantation owners at the quads in Bama and Georgia etc would be a relief......a few hours consorting with them, makes me want to go burn bridges or Atlanta again.
5.) It would mean not having Mizzou and suffering hearing people calling coke, "pop" or a chili a "mango" and hearing how a great a program is who has consistantly lost avg 5-6 games a season for the past 50 years.

If we wanted another Vandy, we should have asked Ga Tech to come back... least it would be like old times.

Not really about the SEC, but Nebraska fans are having some buyer's remorse about going to the B1G.

LINK /

quote:

“I don’t know if it’s still lingering depression from the UCLA game or seeing what the rest of Big 10 looks like this year, but I’m starting to finally lament the fact Nebraska left the Big 12 as it stands today. What if just Mizzou, Colorado, and A&M left and we stayed. Then throw in TCU. Now you have ten teams in the Big 12 like this season but the Huskers are in there. How much do you think fans would kill to see this slate of games annually?

“I know we all hate Texas, but man if we had stayed, the OU rivalry would be back on an annual basis, and we would get that shot at Texas every year, along with our old Big 8 friends KSU & Okie-State. Heck, look at what it would be if just Colorado and A&M bailed. Throw out TCU & put Mizzou back in the mix. I know it was a good move for the university financially and academically, but you can’t honestly say as a fan you are psyched week in and week out for the fixed schedule we have in the Big 10 (yawn) vs. would could have been now if Nebraska stayed in the Big 12. …

“There’s no one to hate in the Big 10. That is a problem. There are plenty of characters(villains) to hate back in the Big 12, and that just fueled the passion of the fan base. I’m starting to see more and more of an apathetic outlook from Nebraska fans. I think a lot has to do with not having any teams in our current conference to focus the hate towards. … I loved that Mizzou, KSU and even KU hated Nebraska. I loved the back and forth with their fan bases. That passion and spirited debate seems to be dissipating every week and every season, and that is sad to see. Now we just debate among ourselves about how bad or good we really are more so than at any time I can remember the last 30 years.

“Hindsight is always 20/20, but as I run through this in my head the more frustrated I get. For a man as reserved and patient as Dr. Tom appears to be, I’m surprised he didn’t step back and play out what I presented above in more of a long range outlook. Maybe he did. But if he did and this is what we are left with, then wow. That would be a huge fail. Leaving because of the Texas threat or perceived threat is kind of weak looking back. Our best revenge on Texas for me would have been staying the course in Big 12 (the TV money was eventually coming) and start earning respect on the football field and start beating them at a more consistent pace than 1 out every 9 tries.

“If you can get buyer’s remorse from switching conferences I think Nebraska will start to finally feel that this season. To reference Eugene Levi (car salesman) speaking with Clark Griswold (Chevy Chase) at the car dealership in the beginning of “Vacation”- he thought he was getting the blue sports wagon, but ended up with the Wagon Queen Family Truckster. “You may hate it now, but wait ‘til you drive it”. In the case of the Big 10 it’s the opposite- “You may love it now, but wait ‘til you drive it.”

Post less.

Clearly you've never been to Missouri before. Most of the things you're spouting off are patently false.

I think A&M will feel like an "SEC" school much quicker than Missouri. They've been on the SEC's radar since the early 90s and have a history with LSU and Arkansas.

Nothing like a guy who doesn't have a clue what he is talking about.

For one, not one person in Missouri calls coke 'pop'. Its just soda here. And what the hell is a 'mango' in reference to chili? Its just chili here to bud.

Memphis and StL are real similar in culture.

I think its ironic you said you want 'good schools' then said you wanted WVU.

Track and Field will also be interesting to watch too with A&M in there, same goes with softball. If we're talking about sports other than Football and the above mentioned baseball

we are still about 4-5 years from Arky and USCe from feeling like SEC teams, so probably about 24-25 years for Mizzou and A&M

While yes, the B1G does in fact suck, it is 100x more viable than the Big12.

Huskers are upset because they are losing but that has very little to do with conference affiliation and more to do with the fact that their HC is a giant dewsh.
That and they basically separated themselves from the Texas recruiting pipeline and are going to struggle for a long time.
