I tend to think the number of people without experiences who didnt respond greatly outweighs those who lied and said no.

Percentage wise, California isn't gayer than any other state.

The percentage has nothing to do with how tolerant a state is. It's a biological trait, so a person born in the South has the same chance of being gay.
Adults can afford to move across the country, but a kid born in North Carolina can't just up and move to the west coast.
Besides, San Francisco is the only big city in California where the gays flock like the salmon of Capistrano. California is full of conservatives, they elected the Kindergarten Cop to be their fricking governor!
