As bad as our DB play has been the past 2 seasons, I'll grasp at any straw.

His running style is so similar to Manziel's it is uncanny, and in terms of stats and accomplishments he is the greatest Texas HS QB ever.

What cant be underestimated is that he played in an Air Raid offense at Allen, who has one of the most highly regarded and polished schemes of any HS program in the country. He also did what he did in 6A Texas ball, which produces more college players than any single division in any state in the country. Allen on the other hand came from a pro style shotgun offense in Arizona facing lesser defenses.

Murray already has three years in a very similar offense and against elite HS defenders. That helps a lot.

Murray must be damn good because I was really impressed by Allen as a TF last year.

Supposedly the scrambles have the whole team buzzing, and he has the fastest release some people have ever seen. He's too good to keep off the field. Even if Kyle Allen wins the job, Kyler is going to get a lot of significant reps, and I bet a lot of redzone packages.

It's not an ideal situation, and I think one of them transfers either way, but they are both really good QBs. Our offense is going to click one way or another.

Will Allen transfer if Murray starts?

I don't see Murray starting, but if that happens I don't know why Allen would stay.

I would think so. That allows him to transfer, red shirt, then get two more years somewhere else.

Next year is the million dollar question, yeah. Who knows? If Allen starts this year and Murray is all that's promised, someone is going to get shafted. Sucks, but that's what competition is supposed to do.

I cant imagine the #1QB from 2014 staying as a backup. He could start for 100+ FBS teams IMO.

I agree. I love it when Bama gets kids that we already have good depth at. I love the kind of kids that DGAF and want to compete and be better than the other 5*s.

No crap Chavis is going to talk up his new players. What is he going to do, come out and say "leaving Lsu for college station was the biggest mistake of my life and a terrible way to wrap up my career"?

I fear for the Aggies. I don't know how much Chavis' scheming can help their run defense without there being good LBs. I do think that they can mitigate the lack of talent at CB with good safety play and pass rush but having poor LB play will allow teams to gut the defense.

Having Mack will help a lot if he is as good as y'all think he is. I doubt Chavis will allow penetration on early downs from the d-line because of how he schemed at LSU but it would be best for A&M. If Mack gets into the backfield, it'll allow Hall and Garrett to contain while the LBs and safeties come forward to tackle.

The problem comes when teams start throwing early and keep the defense off balance. LSU was able to dictate to most offenses because the DBs made sure that no pass was going to be easy. A&M won't have that luxury and will probably have to keep their safeties back to help the CBs out which won't do the LBs any favors.

It isnt that wedont have good players at LB, we just that they are young and we dont have enough to afford any injuries.

You can't honestly say replacing Synder with Chavis isnt going to improve their defense just based on quality of coaches alone. Maybe they won't make a huge jump, but it's likely they won't be worse. Regardless of what system they run, Chavis makes the Aggie D better. Period.

Murray is going to have to play a lot this year. He will probably be brought in to use zone/read option to keep the defense off balance. Running a 2 QB system will make that offense hell to stop when having to prepare for both. With Kyle you have great accuracy and a field commander presence and Kyler will be a demon like Manziel which will get the offense out of a bind when the going gets tough. If you guys have a running back like you had with Trey Williams I wouldn't be surprised if you got 40+ points in almost every game.

Oh. I thought one of the storyline was that your LBs were all injured and crap. Nevermind.

I never said that. I just said that against a run game it's hard to scheme when it's all 1v1 player battles. Chavis can't help players win those battles. He can only put them in a position to gain advantages. His biggest presence will be felt against spread teams with mobile QBs.

Mack won't even start. Walker/Obioha/Williams are our top 3 DTs. Mack will play a lot, but not as much as those three guys. We finally have depth on the defensive line.
