If an athlete doesn't want to pray or go to church, then he doesn't have to in Auburn. I can guarantee you it has no affect on his playing time. This is simply a made up problem by busy bodies from another state, who simply need to mind their own business.

Yea we need to keep it because the team that prays the most always wins. (Rolls eyes). This holier than thou attitude, and the mix of church and college football has always made me dislike auburn a little bit more.

1. How does praying portray an attitude of "Holier than thou"?

2. Pretty sure the prayer isn't to win the game

3. Do you think Auburn is even close to the only team that does this?

Also, the stupidest part about this is a completely unrelated party is the one bringing this up.

If someone on the team feels this way, then fine we can have the debate. But until then, shouldn't even be an issue.

Auburn will always do what they want relative to religion, and good on them. I personally think the baptism ceremony they had in the athletic complex for many football players was a good thing. If religion unifies and strengthens the bonds between players and coaches, then it’s a good thing.

1. The praying is not what I was referencing. The whole culture at auburn is what I’m referencing. The “we put our focus on god first” therefore our program is morally superior to yours. (Virtue signaling).

2. Obviously, I realize you aren’t praying to win the game. It was a comment made in jest, but you all would be fine if you didn’t hold an organized prayer session pre-game.

3. Again, obviously, I realize auburn isn’t the only team that does this. Those other teams make me roll my eyes as well. Auburn is the topic of this thread, therefore they were the target.

Chizik referenced it being a “god thing” when you won the national championship. I guess god just wanted all those other teams to lose that year.
It’s one thing to pray as fans. No problem with that. No problem with players or coaches praying to whatever god they prefer to pray to, but to make it the foundation of your athletic program is a little bizarre. Name another SEC school that does this?

Unfreakingbelievable… Nah, nah it is believable.

These Neanderthals haven't a clue what to do with their time.

I abhor Auburn because of Saint Gus, but damn. I hope that they not only win this, but get their financial costs of the attorneys back as well. ANd when they do, do the prayer on that gigantic screen just prior to the game.

Geeze Louize, what a bunch of losers. Find something better to do with your time.

That's what it says? Why don't you post the exact words? Just because people interpret it as you say, there is one word that's pretty important. The one you left out.

Let's try this again.

What an absolute disgusting group of individuals. A bunch of self labeled intellectuals who believe in nothing but their own abilities feel so threatened by something they deem as being fake that they will waste their time and money trying to defeat it.

Or it could lead them to have patience with others and lead them to do good works through the Spirit.

OR a group of individuals who stand up for the rights of ALL people and try to keep government honest and following the constitution. Depends on your view. But, just fyi, this organization steps in when they are alerted by individuals who have complaints. So, at least one person out there from AU thinks this is an issue.

This really isn't a subject for the SEC rant. And, honestly, I don't want to get too tied up in arguing points that nobody will try to understand.

So, in short, frick Auburn.

Correct. Recruits are not hidden from the religious culture at schools. They know what these teams do behind the scenes.

But why have an issue with this? In what way does this cause a problem. They themselves label that which they are fighting against as being fake. So why waste your time with something that is fake?

Auburn Athletics doesn't shy away from promoting religion within their football program. Recruits shouldn't go there if offended. Recruits made that choice knowing well in advance.

Because I don't think any god has anything to do with our constitution or running our government. I think praying to God before Congress could embolden certain members to vote based on their religious beliefs rather than the best interests of ALL of their constituents.

I've played on a lot of teams that have prayed before games and have never once heard anybody pray for a victory. Methinks you either have never played or are another kneejerk reactor.

I have heard in almost every prayer that they pray for a clean injury free game, so yeah....holier than thou.
