Most Tiger fans will admit that the Arky game is one that makes us nervous. It seemingly didn't matter who the coach was at the time. With that said, I was pretty impressed with the improvement of last years team on D. With Wilson and Davis back on O and the offensive phiolsophy remaining the same, I believe that this years team is still a legit contender for the west and the overall title.
Please break down who you all lost due to graduation, early exit, kicked-off the team, etc. from last years squad and how that will effect each phase of your team. Put a positive or negative by the impact of those lost players:
For example, with Wade being kicked off the team, how will that effect special teams and O. If he is unable to play who fills those shoes?

They will have a top 5 offense nationally, and a good defense.

With that said, they still can't beat Bama or LSU. Who should have the top two defenses again, and each should have top 20 offenses tbh.

Home field advantage will help us this year.

2010 D was much better than last year's D.

Since I am on my iPad, i do not want to do all that work. Ill assign grades though.

OL- B
Receiving- B+
TE- A
QB- A+
RB-A-

DL-B
LB- C+
CB- B-
Safeties - C+

punter-A
Kicker-A+
REturns- A+

Long story short, if our OL can improve off where they were last year, our offense shouldnt really see a big dropoff(maybe more dropped balls from newer WR)

On defense, overall wew will probably be medicore. It is yet to be seen if our new DC from Ohio State can turn up the intenisty anf turnover ratio. I expect our defense to actually be decent for once in the front 4, but linebackers and DBs will nned to step up their game if we want to make a BCS run. I predict a 9-3 record barring major injuries.

and a good defense.

This they didn't have last year. You obviously have them improving significantly on defense. Imo, that is what continues to hold them back, and I also believe their offense will not be as good as expected without BP. That being said, I still think they win 8 to 9 games, and play in Cotton Bowl more than likely.

agree....don't see 10-2, and 9-3 is questionable, depending on how the offense adjusts. With LSU and Bama on the schedule, you really have little room for screw ups. I could easily see 8-4. Texas A&M game will be big if you can get the W.

based on the DC taking over before the bowl game. I thought they were as good on D as I have ever seen them in that game. To say it was all of last year was a mistake on my part.
I do think they were showing things that were different than 2010 in that game. A good spring and a very good fall can make a D a lot better than a Oline for example.

instead of going indepth with losses I'll just post how the positions should fair this season.

quote:

Oline-Should be an improvement we were very young last year.

Reciving-Slight drop off to a possible major drop off just depends on how PP calls plays.

TE-Best in the SEC.

QB-Best in the SEC.

RBs- Knile Davis + Dennis Johnson =

quote:

Dline - Should be an improvement but will most likely stay around the same.

LBs- Should see one of the biggest improvements here. Highsmith and Wright are actually SEC sized LBS.

CBs- Another drastic improvement area. Soph CB Tevin Mitchell will be ALL-SEC 2nd-3rd team by seasons end.

Safeties - One of the few positions I'm concerned about.

You have no way to know this. This is easy to say. LSU has a LOT of GREAT YOUNG talent in the backfield too....but I like to watch them actually achieve first.

that is saying a lot after watching your defense last year. I'd also worry about my OL. Wilson is good, but against LSU and Bama last year....got taken apart. Add in SC this year, and he will be going against some great DL's....plus Auburn thinks they have the best DL in the league....so your OL better be great.

Not too worried about SC. See last 3 games for results.

In all fairness, they were without their O last year. If you they are healthy, you go ahead and disregard going to Columbia this year. Their Dline will be very good...and qb experienced and IF Latimore (best rb in college) is able to return to form....they are legit.

Yes because I'm making such a leap here. He was 3-4th on the team in tackles last year. Oh and...

Arkansas is perfectly capable of beating Bama and/or LSU this year in Fayetteville. We also could lose a game on the road. How much edge is lost with Bobby's departure?

Payle Haynes and Taver Johnson will transform the Defense against the Run. Teams will be forced to throw the Football this year. On Offense our Line will be much improved protecting Tyler Wilson. We will have a legitimate Ground game as well. I look for our Receivers to step up big. We have more Size and Speed along with one of the top tight ends in college football. This will be a very good offensive unit and teams will not be able to keep them off the field just grinding it out on the ground.

Our kicking game is as good as any in the conference with Breeding and Hocker. If Bobby was running the show, LSU would be toast in Fayetteville and Saban would have his hands full!

Right now, I'd say both Bama and LSU will need to bring their 'A' Game to NWA if they expect to win.

So what, injuries happen all the time. We lost 2 upperclassmen for the Bama and aTm games, and those teams ended running all over us because we had to play true freshmen.

Petrino, and his brother Paul, know to attack SC for some reason. Even in the one game Petrino lost to Sc, it was a barn burner with Nathan Dick as QB lol

Oline- Return 3 full-time starters and 2 part-time starters. Interior is very solid but the question will be how the tackles hold up. Should be upgrade from last season on experience alone.

Reciving - Lost Jarius Wright, Greg Childs and Joe Adams. Marquel Wade who looked like the future is currently off the team for being a thug POS. Downgrade here. You don't lose three of the best WR's in school history and upgrade.

TE - Upgrade here. Chris Gragg is one of the too two TE's in the league and look for FR Demetrius Dean to get significant playing time as the season goes along. He rocketed up the depth chart after joining the team in the spring after a delayed enrollment.

QB -Upgrade. Another year of experience for Tyler Wilson.

RB - Upgrade. Knile Davis is back which will allow Dennis Johnson return to his role of a 5-7 carries a game guy which he is better suited for and allow Knile to take over the full workload again. Throw in another year of experience for Kiero Small and you have a solid trio in the backfield to take pressure of the passing game.

D
Dline - Downgrade on the Ends. Our top DE from last Jake Bequette graduated and Tank Wright on the other end has been moved to middle linebacker. JUCO Austin Flynn looked promising in Spring drills but we haven't seen him under the SEC lights. SO Trey Flowers looked very good as a true freshman last year filling in for an injured Bequette but he is going to need more time in the weight room before he reaches his full potential.

Upgrade at DT - We're deep here returning 5 of our top 6 guys and the only one that is leaving was on the third string.

LB - Upgrade. People will think I am crazy here because we lost our 4 year starting MLB in Jerry Franklin but Alonzo Highsmith was very good last year and I think finally having a true SEC sized middle LB in Tank Wright is going to pay tremendous dividends. Jerry Franklin was an OLB trying to play MLB for four years and wasn't very good in stuffing the run up the middle. Still a question at the third LB spot. I expect a rotation of guys there early and you will also see Ross Rasner slide down from his Safety spot occasionally to fill in.

CBs - Push. SO Tevin Mitchel looks like he is going to be a good one in the future but he is still young and makes youthful mistakes at times. The question on whether or not the starters will be better here firmly falls on the shoulders of Darius Winston. He has all the tools to be great but in three years the light just has not come on yet. Under new coaching he looked like a completely different player in the spring. Hopefully that translates to actual games this season.

Safeties - Downgrade. While Eric Bennett returns to start at FS, we are replacing Tramain Thomas with a combination of Ross Rasner/Jerry Mitchell. One was playing LB last year and the other was playing CB. Rasner will start at safety but in obvious passing situation will rotate down to LB and Mitchell will come in at safety.

Punter - Upgrade. Breeding is going on his third straight season as the starting punter.

Kicker - Upgrade. Hocker is going on his third straight season as the starting kicker

Returns - Downgrade. Losing Joe Adams is going to hurt more than most will admit. It will 100% be a downgrade if Marquel Wade is not reinstated. He is like a mini-Joe Adams and would have eased the drop off somewhat.

Dennis Johnson will be returning kickoffs for the third time in 4 seasons so I will count his experience as an upgrade there.

made it this far before I stopped, although the comment about no teams being able to run on you is laughable.

Bottom Line: LSU ran all over you last year and will do so again this year, with at least 250 yards. You don't go from terrible, to stopping run oriented teams with great OL's like lsu and bama.

Last year all we heard was the great offense. LSU and Bama both shut them down and kept them off the field plenty. It will be no different this year. I love the little comment at the end about LSU being toast IF...etc....LSU destroyed arky last year, and will be better this year. You really don't get that.

You start think that way and you are in for trouble. SC will be a very formidable game for you, and they will likely be favored to beat you.
