Maybe now that they've actually had a good player grace their sidelines they can give up this silly infatuation with the guy who wasn't good at football and sell the rights of the name to the team which people actually know as the 12th man, the Seahawks

The whole 'words' thing is actually sort of off-putting... both the words used and the prohibition of using them.
I'd be temped to run around shouting them, and when a pretend soldier came around to chide me, tell him to go frick himself.

fyi... The corps and the rest of the student body are pretty separate. They eat in separate halls and sleep in separate dorms. The upperclassmen in the corps have no authority over and underclassmen non-reg(non corps student).

Ah. I sort of figured the little army dudes tried to enforce that shite on the general student population. You know how seriously little soldier dudes can take themselves.

Ags,
Don't waste your breath. These folks CHOSE to attend (those with degrees anyway) or support generic institutions with no interesting history and no traditions worthy of the name. They will never understand us, no matter how much we try to enlighten them.
Their reactions are actually understandable, from a psychological standpoint. "People fear that which they do not understand" (Andrew Smith, among others), and it is a common coping mechanism to belittle or ridicule those things which we fear.
Also cogitate on this. The rest of the SEC considers it a "tradition" to sit under a tree on game day, eating cheese trays and getting drunk on cheap chardonnay. And they consider that "tradition" to be comparable (or even superior) to ... for instance ... Bonfire.
Sure, tailgating is fun enough, but these people actually believe that their little picnics are comparable to the school spirit involved in a months-long community undertaking or the other ceremonies that bind Aggies together.
Can you imagine any of the Rant crowd participating in Muster or Silver Taps.
Of course not.
To them, the game exisis for their entertainment, and the team OWES them a good performance. (See LSU). By contrast, WE go to the game to support the TEAM.
To them, their schools are places to get a degree and to stay intoxicated for four consecutive years. For US, as a general rule, A&M is a community to which we continue to belong for life, regardless of our place of residence.
They do not understand. They are not CAPABLE of understanding. Otherwise, they would be Aggies.

Aggies lack a certain self awareness.

Shane, I am plenty calm. I was not writing for (or to) any of the Rantards. I was writing to my fellow Ags.
So many Ags keep arguing with these ... individuals ... about our traditions. They just don't seem to understand the futility of the whole effort.
They are trying to enlighten small people with a smaller world-view. The effort is ultimately wasted.

You have to be trolling, right?

Cults usually have pretty limited world views.

Can one of the Ags explain to me why y'all have bumper stickers that say "former student" on it rather than "Alumni"?
The semantics of that one always left me confused.
