For Oxford I'd have to say:
The Taco Shop - It is a little mexican grocery that also serves tacos, quesadillas, burritos, and has the best chips and salsa on the planet. They flash fry their chips then dust em with rock salt. So fire. This place is legit Mexican, they serve tongue tacos for fricks sake.
Phillip's Grocery - Everything from catfish to burgers to steaks. Very good.
LBs Meat Market - "The Filet Burger" - Nuff said.

I think its fair to say that Mexican food in every other SEC state/town is complete crap compared to what we have in Texas

I haven't seen Taylor Grocery mentioned yet. Poster child for "hole in the wall" places.

That's the place we went to when I came in town for the LSU game. Really good catfish.

I pray that I never in my life have to travel to Fayetteville, AR. The drive there would depress one enough to drive into the side of a hillbilly.

What a great contribution to this thread.

I would also add De Palma's, Epiphany, and Chucks Fish.
In Auburn there's Amsterdams, Maestro 2300, and Warehouse Bistro. Ariccia in the AUHCC use to be good but I've heard it has been going downhill. It's still the closest place for a good breakfast on gameday.

quote:Nope - no desire to go to Little Rock (not the way I would go even if I did). I would try to get to the game though if we played it in Fayetteville.

Yeah, I'm just being a jackass. I have been on the White River in Missouri and N. Arkansas. Absolutely beautiful country.

If you've only been as far as Petit Jean the scenery only gets better from there to Fayetteville.

Its true, BBQ in Alabama is hey lets throw red sauce on it. Very disappointing. You would think that they would find a happy medium between Memphis and Carolina.
ETA; And to the dude who said Guthrie's...if you want chicken in Auburn go to Niffers...if you want a cheap good meal go to Good Ol' Boys

Where is this in Starkville?
On jackson street. Downtown by the cable company, or what used to be the cable company.

I've never seen or heard of it
that's because it's a hole in the wall. You just named restaurants that are nice and downtown and shite like that. That's not a hidden gem.

Is it still open? I know they closed for a while and then reopened. I thought I heard they closed again.

they might have closed again. I thought that they were back going. It's a good place. I would love to buy that place. They don't do any marketing or anything. I think it could be one of the best places in Starkville to hang out if anyone would try a little bit.
