Hey Georgia fans, question about Grantham

Dan Mullen usually keeps his nose in the defense to a degree regardless of who is DC. Last year it stayed there all season as we had a flop for a DC.
This year so far in practice he has stayed out of it completely. Guys who cover Miss State say he has total trust in Grantham and likes what he sees and has 100% turned it over to Grantham to do as he pleases.
This is a first for Mullen so the question is, why did Mark Richt and Todd part ways? Did UGA just not have the right guys to fit what he does or was it something else?

I've heard personality was a big part. At least at Louisville. Probably similar at UGA.

Great schemes, but complicated.
Your secondary might look lost for a year lol.
Good coach, not so great recruiter. He did well with other people's guys at UGA and Louisville. I liked his fire fwiw

If that's the case, hell I'll take it. You haven't lived until you've seen 2nd and Sirmon.

Grantham is the epitome of "f*cking a-hole"

Over-complicates things due to his NFL background, and bonehead play calls on 3rd down.

He signed with Louisville. We were after Pruitt. He wanted to coach with his brother as well and have control of staff.

Grantham is a good defensive coach.
Much better than the OC Arkansas left us with.

He's a total dick which didn't help but he also couldn't seem to recruit players intelligent enough to keep up with his complicated playbook. Resulted in the infamous 3rd and grantham More often than not as secondary would be clueless

This is what confuses me. Peter Sirmon had complicated schemes and Mullen took that over for the egg bowl and just let the players play a simplistic defense.
I'm not hearing anything complicated about this defense Grantham is running. Grantham has a front 7 that is very talented so who knows. (I do but not saying anything). I know what he is going to run with the front 7 but the secondary I do not.

Dudes a world class asshat and his defenses suck too. State will be needing another new DC soon enough. Mullens decision to finally keep his nose out if the defense couldn't possibly be timed worse and may see him out with Grantham

Of course, I could expect BowlJackson to chime in not knowing squat but feeling a need to get into the conversation. I need to bookmark this reply.

Outside of Georgia fans, Auburn fans know more about Grantham than anybody else. We played him at UGA and Louisville. Dude sucks.
I know the common sentiment for State fans is that the defense has to get better because it couldn't possibly be worse than last year, but y'all couldn't have possibly picked a worse replacement.

Only time will tell.

Grantham was a mixed bag at UGA. The secondary play was generally okay, but had the bad habit of giving up big plays at times. Rushing defense was generally up-and-down - sometimes great, sometimes terrible.
He is mostly remembered by Dawg fans for his final year in Athens with the worst scoring defense in school history. Keep in mind, they were facing the likes of Tajh Boyd, Connor Shaw, Mettenberger, Marshall, etc. every week.
He did improve the defense after a couple of years and played great when they really wanted to (see 2011 season and 2012 Florida game), but he had a big problem of not being able to adapt his scheme to better fit his players once the old ones had moved on.

Lmao hey BowlJackson, while he was DC at Georgia, you got destroyed 3 of his 4 years.
2011 he held you to 7 points.
2012 he shut you out big fat ZERO!

It was a mutual deal helped when UL offered him $1M/year. Grantham was fantastic at scheming blitzes (see 2012 UF game) but he struggled badly to defend anyone with tempo. That continued into his Louisville days.

That was Pruitt's first year. Grantham's numbers against Auburn were 49, 0, 7, 43. His shite defense cost us the 2013 game. The 2010 game was Cam going to God-mode at the same time Bobo decided throwing to AJ Green would be a bad idea.

Grantham was the DC at Louisville by that point.
But I won't let that distract me from the fact that he held Gus to 7 points in 2011.
