Not trying to be an arse but here are things to consider. First, we had to replace Dak Prescott. Secondly, what you didn't know was a divided team- half thought Williams had paid his dues and should be QB, half agreed with Nick Fitzgerald. It was a very divided team trust me and transfers occured.

Secondly, there has never been a more crap defense that I can remember. It was not lack of talent (except secondary with injuries).

Here is what I do know, MSU has played you well in most games (if not won them) and last year does not count from all above.

It was really the worse year under Mullen. I do think the games back to back vs LSU and UGA will take a toll right before we play you but I expect a much closer game regardless of all that. I wish we had you our first sec game.

I'm sure your defense will improve no doubt, but like you said it was pure crap last year. They won't magically make the jump to being good. There will be growing pains, and they'll likely still he pretty bad overall this year. And Grantham really isn't that good of a DC.

Fitzgerald is a very good playmaker. And it'll help if the team is wholly behind him like you say (a divided locker room is a coaching leadership issue btw. Not a good sign for Mullen). But Fitz doesn't appear to have much help. Your RB, Aeris Williams is average. Fitz is a dynamic runner, but he's average at best as a passer and y'all lost y'alls best WRs off of what already wasn't a very good unit last year. I don't think y'alls OL strikes fear into DLs either.

Grantham specializes in getting to the QB. It isn't necessarily blitzes either. He can do it with 4 guys (recruits OLB very well and pathetic in all other areas).

Grantham is extremely successful when he can shut down the run. Look at his great games and defenses and his rushing yards allowed are excellent. Making teams 1 dimensenial is consistent when he is dialing up a great defense.

However... when a team has a QB who can stretch the field and occupy the linebackers and safeties, then that run defense turns to crap. Even a bad tennesee team could run and throw at will because they had an arm that could stretch the field.
Grantham never found an answer for how to defend he whole field. And at UGA, he left the cupboard bare for the next DC to clean up.

Bowl , sometimes I wonder how much research you actually do. First off, Aeris Williams did not start until late in the season. He had 720 yards in 4 games with a 5.3 average. Nobody that pulls for state understood why on earth he was not the guy to start the season.

Secondly, Fitz has one year under his belt and there SHOULD be a jump from first year to second year. Our OL is deffinately going to be improved this year. One of our OL is already being talked of a possible 1st round pick.

We shall see but like everyone, I know more about my team than you do.

720 yards in 4 games, huh?

He'll be in the bottom half as far as the talent level of starting RBs in the SEC. That makes him average. Less talented than the backup for a few schools as well.

Good stuff. I'll tell him pack it in along with the rest of the squad. Hopefully we win two games and look for next year.

Grantham embarrassed his HC at UGA a few times. Dude is a scumbag. Richt is not. That deal never worked.

You Auburn fans know more about Todd than UGA fans. That's remarkable.

Dan Mullen usually keeps his nose in the defense to a degree regardless of who is DC. Last year it stayed there all season as we had a flop for a DC.

This year so far in practice he has stayed out of it completely. Guys who cover Miss State say he has total trust in Grantham and likes what he sees and has 100% turned it over to Grantham to do as he pleases.

This is a first for Mullen so the question is, why did Mark Richt and Todd part ways? Did UGA just not have the right guys to fit what he does or was it something else?

Grantham is an EXCELLENT DC

the knock on him is that he runs schemes that are too complicated for many college guys

he and Richt had totally different personalities - I think there was some tension there

also, TG can be an arse - his "choke" symbol FL & almost having a fight against Franklin vs Vandy were not the type of things CMR wanted to see

couple that with playing below expectations & BOOM - overpaid DC fired...

Grantham is a good defensive coach.
Much better than the OC Arkansas left us with.

I think you misspelled Pittsburgh. Nobody here was sorry to see him go, except Pittman of course.

You're talking about a fan base that wanted Richt gone. And now they have Smart. They think Eason sux because he struggled some as a true freshman. Even though their team and coach was obviously lacking. Defenses too complicated? Wth does that even mean?
Their Defense hasn't been better since he left them. Every interview States players give so far, they rave at how easier his D is and how it puts them in all the right spots. I'll trust D1 SEC defensive players opinions more than Georgia know-nothing fans all day.

I'm pretty sure Pruitt gave up 30+ points less frequently than Grantham. And Pruitt did it with a younger, less experienced squad.

I still am a fan of Grantham. I just hate what happened to our recruiting (and his commitment to never playing/developing the backups ) under his and Garner's watch (2012 is the infamous year that USCw had more scholarship athletes than UGA and they were on a very heavy probation).

Same here.
May be why we signed multiple safeties, including a guy from Michigan

Grantham is gonna shut Georgia out this year... and their whiny fans will act like whiny OM fans and blame the refs for their 47-0 loss

Nick Chubb rushed for 266 yards against Grantham's elite 2014 defense (#1 in the nation rush defense before that game). Our now 3rd string QB (Bruce Ramsey) finished that game for the win.
