That's why people are annoyed.

Which is why he says in his tweet that if people want “most deserving” to be the real standard, they should demand that the conference commissioners force the committee to change the standard.

I would also say that it’s hard to compare this year to previous years in the playoff era because we’ve never had a year where there basically six teams in contention for a playoff spot after conference championship weekend. Most years it’s either simply clear who the 4 best are or it comes down to two one-loss teams for the final spot.

their resume is literally as good as you could ask for. Going into August what would a bama fan claim as their perfect resume? Undefeated 13-0 conference champs, right? There is *literally* not a better on paper resume than that.

So you think Liberty should be in?

The gymnastics are actually simple. You cannot put in Alabama if you don't put in Texas because of H2H. Media wanted both in the playoffs. Problem solved for the committee.

The problem the committee has is "justification" now that the Government is involved. The committee gave the finger to one of the largest schools in Florida with no explanation.

Just wait for the discovery process. The only good thing to come out of this is that the process will need to be more clearly defined and repeatable in the future. This year, I will be rooting for FSU and a "split" MNC. Anything to expose the corruption.

Herbstreit is a whiny titty baby and I'd love to see the spin if it were tOSU left out instead of FSU. He's a loser ...

Kirby is right that Bama is better. Plus "undefeated" is not a magic ticket.

But I can understand those who also note that being clearly better has never been a magic ticket, either.

In fact, I can respect pretty much all the angles except this lunatic one that swears the only way the comittee could have chosen Bama is money, tv, pressure, SEC, blah blah blah.

They were in a tough spot and made a hard call, staying well within their stayed criteria for doing so.

Herbstreit is a company man. His views will always reflect the status quo and/or what ESPN wants.

The committee is going to have to justify their actions in the discovery process for the AG. Anti-trust is serious business, and this isn't going to just "go away". It isn't just FSU fans that are upset about this, and honestly I'm all for it. The government was already looking to regulate NIL, and this investigation will only spur more change.

You have to separate the media from college sports for any kind of "fair" process. I'm not sure that is possible.

Bama all but lost to a terrible Auburn team at the end of the season. FSU could take down Bama with its backup. It’s not that far fetched.

So had Bama not played Texas but played North Texas, would you say the same of undefeated Bama?

I would say bama would have every argument in the world to be in the top 4 in that case, yes. Because they wouldn't have any blemishes on their record.

So as long as you are undefeated, schedule strength should not be looked at? this is what you are saying?

That's not what I or the other guy are saying...it's what the committee has said. 9 years out of 9. Up until now.

I mean, if they probe and find the group text that's all, "can't leave out SEC ... ESPN says make it happen, explain it as best you can", then fine. Blow it up.

Otherwise, my best guess is they made the call the best they could.

Yeah, and there were no special circumstance this year whatsoever. No star player being injured for one of the undefeated teams. Definitely not a #1 v #4 SEC Championship Game that looked like the Natty, while FSU struggled to do anything against Louisville until the got into the wildcat and broke off a singular big run.

This right here needs to be imprinted in some people's brains because nothing else really matters on the topic. Herbstreit and every other talking head gets their script from their employer, which is a billion dollar ENTERTAINMENT indsutry. They don't care abotu fair, or correct, or informing, or antyhign like that...htey care about money.

I'll never forget kirk in 2018 right before the final announcement really going to bat and making a case for UGA to make the playoffs lol. A team wiht 2 losses taht didn't win its conference. We had less than zero reason to be in the plyaoffs but there was ol' kirk really puttin up a fight for us. Why? Because it would generate some kind of last minute drama before the reveal, and it would get people heated and talking online.

FSU’s hardest game being the 5th best team in the SEC is not the point you think it is

It's not about the SEC. Texas should've been left out but ESPN owns the rights lock stock and barrel.

now you're dissecting games lol. In 2021 did bama deserve to be in the national title game? I think anyone that watched them would objectively say they were one of the 2 best teams yeah? Yet they went into multiple overtimes and looked like hammered dogshit against a woeful auburn team. I mean shite...look at 3 weeks ago! This AU team is even worse than that one was and bama needed a damn miracle to win. That doesn't diminish how good of a team they are though.

The committee will have to justify their actions on a 'legal' basis. Not say, this is what we think ... Do you really think the FTC is going to let this drop? Hell, you have Senators openly lobbying for regulation of NIL.

There will be regulation of the playoff as well ...
