Because State may be better this year, but there is nothing to indicate that they will take a bigger step forward than Auburn which is the premise here. State needs to take a bigger step forward than Auburn to win...and I just don't think they do.

I thought that y'all made bigger steps than Clemson, but look who won that game.

ETA: this taking bigger steps shite doesn't mean anything.

State will win basically because we grind harder and better than Auburn.

If your name is not Alabama or LSU, the only other way I know of to be successful is to have an outstanding QB. Neither AU nor State has one of those.

I believe this game could go either way. I give State the nod at QB simply because Russell has a bit more experience. Frazier probably has a bigger upside, but isn't there yet. That could play a huge role.

As far as being better, I would point to maybe another year of players learning Mullen's offensive system, good development of players, and consistent coaching? There was not much to be learned for Jackson State, so we'll see how much better we really are (or how we are not) on Saturday.

I was sure someone would point something out to me that hadn't occurred to me....hasn't happened. I guess I was looking for confirmation that Im free to feel pretty damn optimistic about this game. I have it. Feeling good. Y'all know football..and none of you have any reason why State should be a better football team...the same people that have acknowledged that Auburn is a better football team. Pretty clear to me.

1 year ban bet. Who's taking?

Don't buy in on the T Russell love. He will throw 2 picks

Close game overall that Parkey wins with a field goal for Auburn

No dog in the fight but this game is in 2 money picks that I am doing and my wallet says AU.

Auburn is better, than the awful pile of flaming dogshit from last year...maybe won't have a better W/L record to show for it, but better.

You moved the ball really well those first couple of games last year. Barrett Trotter looked pretty good before he lost confidence. The Auburn team we played in week 2 was not the same team Bama saw in week 13.

What consensus says you got better? That is just Auburn fans and stargazer opinions(which is offset by all the bad attrition you have had). I have seen nothing at all to imply you improved this year. I do believe you upgraded at DC, but I also think you downgraded at OC by an equal margin. The only thing I saw that MAY imply improvement is your red zone defense, because Clemson ran and passed the ball all over you, but didn't put up many points.

Obviously, you can't tell anything from State's first game against Western Cornfield Tech State A&M

There are many things we can take from this game if you look closely. Just not by what you see in a box score. Compared to State's first game against Memphis last year, we were better in every measurable independent(of competition level) category. The most glaring:
Memphis 11
False Starts: 5(4 by starters, 1 by 2nd string)
JSU 12
False Starts: 1(3rd string)
Obviously, we've got much, much better discipline along the OL now.

quote:

They lost their QB who consistently beat out the new QB for the job.

No. We lost a 5th yr SR that split time with a 2nd yr Fr and 3rd yr So in Russell. We also lost a guy that our whole offense WAS based around. It's pretty obvious that Chris Relf is going to be better than Tyler Russell at running the read-option. Dak Prescott is too. That's why we are going with a pass-first spread. Do the names Chris Leak and Alex Smith ring a bell?

quote:

Lost a very, very good running back.

We have more very, very good rbs. When was the last time State didn't have a very, very good running back? The early 90s maybe? This is literally a mute point until proven otherwise, and one position that we always, always reload.

quote:

Replace 3 offensive lineman (with guys that aren't nearly as highly touted as Auburn's new OLinemen).

This is how I know you didn't actually follow us. We replaced 3 sr OL, none of which sniffed the draft, and only one of which made a scout team. We have literally everything but RT back from the lineup we ran at you past halftime last year(injury related). At that RT spot, LOL about them not being highly touted...you haven't looked up the name Damien Robinson at Scout or Rivals lately have you? Of course, he is playing as a rsSO, not a true or rsFR like your guys are. His competitor, Siddoway(rsJR), was the #1 recruit in the state of Oregon out of highschool. They are not chopped liver, nor are they the rsFR getting their first career snaps against you like some of them were last year.

quote:

Lost how many defensive players to the NFL?

2... A first rounder and a 6th rounder.

quote:

Many of their returning players on D are excellent...but they had them last year. How much better can they be?

We upgraded at both DE spots, our second CB spot, LB(more experience-related) with our only slight downgrades (maybe) being at SS and Fletcher's DT spot. We are better, and much deeper, at every position group this year. You also got to play our DC in his second career game in the role last year, with 3 LBs that were ALL in their 2nd career start. This year? Experienced and deep at LB, with a DC that got consistently better throughout the season(Arky game notwithstanding).

quote:

The only arrow that points North for me about MSU is Q. And will he be better as a true freshman than his predecessor that is now in the NFL.

Who? I'm guessing you are talking about our 3rd string DT Quay Evans. He is still not on our listed depth chart. That should tell you what you are going up against along the DL.

The arrows that "should" point north... MUCH improved at the 2nd CB spot. Actually have 2 legit rush ends now. Deep and experienced LB corps. Excellent FS projected as a 1st or 2nd rounder(I promise you Emory Blake remembers him). Basically the entire defense.

Bottom line: You didn't put up points against a bad scoring defense. What makes you think you will score at will against ours that will again be top 20 in the country? Because the wizard Malzahn and Dyer did last year? If you can't pass on Clemson's CBs, you won't pass on ours. If you can run on them, you may or may not be able to run on us.

tl;dr Idgaf gfy

Yea, that's like saying we can't choose a starter between Wingo, Green and Dedrick Poole.

Got nothing but respect for their kicker. He is good. BUT, predicting 25 mph wind gusts at game time so kicking game will be a bust for either team.

The starter/speed back is LaDarius Perkins. The bruisers are the rsFR Milton and Robinson. Look for the whole SEC to know who Josh Robinson is after this game, IMO...

Also well-known that State struggled defending the pass-first spread last year. That is why Auburn and Arky put up the points they did. No outside pass rush gets even the best CBs beaten in tha scheme. Again, a spot we upgraded at this year. We defended VERY well against your usual pro-style offenses(see LSU/Bama games). That is why the offensive scheme change plays right into our hands.
