I wonder what caused this to happen?

?The LSU Compliance Office has issued several Cease & Desist notifications for products including the name, likeness and/or image of LSU football student-athlete Tyrann Mathieu.

Please be advised that the sale of any products and/or advertisements including the name, likeness or image of this individual or any other LSU student-athlete is in violation of NCAA Bylaw 12.5.2.2 and could have a negative impact on the involved student-athlete's eligibility.

Apparel or paraphernalia including the phrase "Honey Badger" accompanied by the number 7 or the individual's name or any other variation thereof (e.g., TM7, TM, HB7, etc.) is prohibited. Because it is a recognizable nickname, "Honey Badger" is considered a likeness of Tyrann Mathieu under NCAA regulations.

I am not insinuating there is a compliance issue. I was curious how this came about.

I for one think this is weak! As long as nobody is handing the players cash there should be no worries.

This Honey Badger thing has been going on for a while...you think maybe the compliance department just got notice that this was a problem?

Heisman finalist, going to the NC. That makes people start digging. not saying anything happened, but what if he got something, even a few bucks or some free clothing. They are just covering their arse. which is smart

So Tyrann Mathieu can't make a t-shirt with a picture of his face and the name of a random animal on it and sell it? Wow the NCAA is like communist China.

it may have been getting out of hand recently, or maybe it took the compliance office awhile to find these people and issue the ceast and desists to them.

Cease & Desist notifications have been issued on the following impermissible items:

Obviously LSU has found the ones repsonsible for making and selling those items. That's what this article is about.

So very wrong. It's just random people doing it. I know a guy who helped make the koozies.

the notification may just be a CYA for LSU compliance w/ the NCAA. i'm not sure if LSU has the legal authority to enforce a cease and desist on these items unless they come under LSU's licensing. normally, items have to specifically identify the school w/ "LSU" or "Tigers" AND unique colors, or something trademarked like the official helmet of jersey. however, using the school colors w/ the "honey badger" and "7" shouldn't require licensing unless "honey badger" or "TM7" have been trademarked.

according to the article no.

Now, couple "honey badger" with #7 or LSU and it is.
