I think this year's champion is receiving so little hype for 3 reasons:

1. Auburn is not a national brand name.
2. A large percentage of the nation feels the title is tainted by pay for play allegations. It asks too much of the common fan to honestly believe that Cam Newton was so close to his father, publicly admitted to letting his father choose his school for him, and yet have no idea that his father was shopping him for money.
3. I can't remember a title team who has ever been expected to be so bad the following year. People view this AU team more as a one trick pony as opposed to how LSU, Alabama, Florida, Texas, USC and Ohio St were expected to be dynasties that would maintain a status as perennial top 10 teams.

'07 LSU was a fricking joke. At least this team won it all on the field and didn't have to rely on a ridiculous amount of teams to lose, just to back into the game. And to think Less just got another 7 years out of that lucky horseshoe.

*sniff, sniff*

Anybody smell that? Smells like bullshite.

LSU 07 would be the 2nd least respected team. Right behind Auburn '10.

I'm glad you guys came around. We didn't have to wait long to point to another team that was even less deserving.

What kind of fricking argument is that? How did LSU do against Auburn this year?

As to the OP:

People outside the SEC know little to nothing about Auburn and knew even less up until this year. What they do know about Auburn is all negative. They're not a traditional year in and year out contender for the NC and next year they'll be average at best. This isn't a flame as up until this year I've always liked Auburn (and still do, minus Cam), but that's basically the reality of the situation.

No, you had to rely on paying a JUCO player to carry the team.

And which team deserved a shot at the NC over LSU that year?

You have no business making fun of '07 LSU. They may have lost a couple games, but the teams ahead of them lost and they ended up in the NCG. Not only that, but they WON the game. And LSU did not have issues involving cheating surrounding their team that year

It doesn't seem like many care that Auburn has won. Not like last year.

But just like us LSU fans, Auburn fans really don't give a shite

I assume you are partially talking about next year and in the future... the perception is that Auburn was a one or two man team and that both are leaving...

With regards to national perception, the Cam smear campaign and his dad's actions certainly had an impact and the Media has always liked to build up our heros and then tear them down..

Also you have to win a few to be considered with the OSU (over-rated), the Florida's, etc... Even LSU does not get the respect they deserve for winning two BCS NC....

I didn't call your team a joke this year. Cheating slime balls maybe but not a joke.

I think it more has to do with Auburn not being a national power/house hold name.

Kind of, but more to do with the whole Cam Newton thing. He wasn't even originally an Auburn player. He liked Florida better than Auburn. If he had played for Auburn for more than one year I could see this negative effect start to diminish a bit. Oh yeah, and if his dad hadn't asked for money for his son's services. There's that too.
