We dick rode Bo Jackson and still do to some extent. And Frank Thomas. And Charles Barkley and maybe even a little Tim Hudson, though Josh Donaldson is getting some love with that MVP.

Carolina was terrible when Cam Newton arrived, and have only gotten better through time. Sure, some Auburn fans jumped on their bandwagon, but it's not like they jumped on because they were winning.

That's not true at all in my experience.

The people I mentioned didn't start buying Carolina gear/posting about them on social media/calling themselves "Panther fans" until Carolina started making the playoffs two years ago.

The ones I know wanted Cam to do well, like you do, but none of them bought clothing and let the world know they are Panther fans until they started winning. These people didn't run out and buy a Panthers jersey when Cam got drafted but they sure as hell bought one when they made the playoffs and even more so this season when they were rolling along undefeated.

Of course it was temporary, he did this little thing called graduation, I'm sure you're not familiar with that concept.

This is incorrect. He did not graduate before bolting to the NFL. He did come back temporarily for some free publicity/photo ops under the guise of "finishing his education".

He's got a masterful PR team.

It is kind of weird- the sudden die-hard fandom of the Panthers. I've heard college fans say they're fans of a player on a team, but I don't think I've ever heard of college fans becoming fans of an NFL team simply because one single player is on it.

It's called not really being a fan of the NFL. As for me my only link to any NFL team is players. I like Cam Newton and would love to see him make history and win the Super Bowl. I have also always like Peyton Manning and cheered on the Broncos year before last. The only allegiance i have ever had to any NFL team is a player that I was a fan of.

Has any fanbase ever been so asshurt about a player that beat them 5 years ago, like bama fans

My only regret is that Cam wasn't also responsible for the Kick Six. If there were a god in heaven, Cam would somehow have also played Davis' role in the Kick Six.
