Alabama is the best CFB program in the country, but the fans have some major penis envy of Auburn over Cam.

The Miami Heat's whole fanbase left when Lebron went back to Cleveland.

Do you live under a rock? People pull for players over teams all the time.

I understand that people do it all the time. I am just trying to understand what happens to the ex-team. Are all ties cut? Do they still cheer for the ex team? Do they hate the ex team? What if Cam is traded to the "fan's" most hated team, yet Carolina fields 4 AU grads? Football is a team sport, I can't grasp how you would follow just one player. This is more like an NBA mentality. What if fans did this in baseball? It would get out of hand with all of the trades.

The Auburn fans here will ride Cam wherever he goes because he is the rustling master of the SECRant. We are also learning from recent threads we as fans following him is causing it's very own rustling phenomenon.

One cannot pass up gems when presented so easily.

Solid answer. So the people that fall in bucket 2 will just trash their panther hoodies and hats and pick up Buffalo Bills shite (hypothetically speaking).

Could be, but I don't really know. My Auburn friends are in 4 categories:

1) Falcons/other fan who support Cam and are going for Panthers with enthusiasm but won't be buying any Carolina gear, etc. (I think this is most AU fans)

2) NFC South (99% Saints) fans going against the Panthers

3) People with Charlotte/NC ties who are suddenly big Panthers fans

4) People who were already Carolina fans

I quite honestly don't know of a single AU person who has switched allegiance UNLESS they actually had a tie to the city as well (people who've relocated to NC, people who grew up in Charlotte but supported another team until recently).

I have plenty of AU friends that are now suddenly HUGE Panther fans that don't fit in any of your categories.

Some were even big fans of another NFL team and they just dropped them once Cam and the Panthers started doing well. One chick is the wife of one of the docs I call on. She was a huge Bears fan - even went to the Super Bowl in 2006. Wore Bears gear all the time. Last night she non-stop posted about "her Panthers" and posted selfies in which she is wearing a dumb "Dab On 'Em" shirt and a Carolina cap. Her husband was a huge Dolphins fan. Had all kinds of Phins memorabilia in his office, wore Miami scrubs etc. Last Friday he was decked out in Carolina gear. Neither of them have any ties to North Carolina.

And then I see this shite posted by a guy I used to work with - up until 2-3 years ago he was the biggest Falcons fan I knew. Now this -

There are a shite-ton of AU fans who have jumped on the Carolina bandwagon and have no ties to NC who are doing a lot more than just "going for Panthers with enthusiasm".

Yeah, that's the bizarre part. I too have some AU friends that have ditched their prior favorite team to hop on the Carolina bandwagon. Which is fine, it's just weird.

I don't see why anyone cares. Carolina was terrible when Cam Newton arrived, and have only gotten better through time. Sure, some Auburn fans jumped on their bandwagon, but it's not like they jumped on because they were winning. They jumped on because they cheer for Cam Newton, the icon, new face of the NFL and soon to be MVP. And it helps that he went to Auburn and dominated the college football world in every way.

I hope Cam Newton and his Carolina Panthers win every game...until they play my Denver Broncos. And I hope the Orange Crush shuts them down to give Denver their 3rd Super Bowl victory.

I don't know about other people, but growing up in Alabama, the NFL was just not that big of a deal.

Picking your favorite team was like picking your favorite insect, it was not really something you thought a lot about.

When I was a little kid I won a "major prize" (ala Christmas Story) on one of my pepsi caps.

It was an Atlanta Falcons helmet...

words cannot express how disappointed I was.
