Auburn wouldn't even let Petrino interview when Chizik was hired and I doubt he'd come there now after they screwed him twice.

We gave him phone interview in 2012. We hire him in principle in 2003 but that clearly wasn't an option when the media got wind of it.

If he left our current defensive staff in place, Bobby would make one hell of a corndog

They didn't exactly screw him. He was going to be the coach in 2003.

Tubs is the one who was really screwed. After the 2003 plane debacle, he had his contract amended to include restrictions on the hiring activities of boosters and trustees to replace him. When Rane contacted Nutt by circumventing official communications, it invoked a massive penalty and Tommy went away, justto make them pay. Nut shied away, and they ended up with Chizik.

I think Petrino came back in play when Chizik was fired, but he wanted no part of the way things were being run at the time.

It was truly toxic down there for a while. I'd like to think that micromanagement from the AU System BOD and powerful boosters (and one highly revered former coach) are less involved in mucking it up for this staff, but I really don't know.

Auburn almost hired Houston Nutt? I had no idea. That would've been amazing.

Not 100% true, there was no penalty for the contact, but Tommy could resign and argue he should be paid. It was a weak argument and Tommy eventually left due to family issues and we paid the buyout. Our stupid AD hired Mr. 5-19. In 10 years with Tubs he won 9 or more games 5 times and had one undefeated team. In the 7 years since we have had 2 teams win 9 or more games, Cam Newton and then the 2013 Miracle Season.

Completely untrue.

Auburn's search committee gave Petrino the opportunity to have a phone call with them in late 2012. They basically spent the entire call blasting him and harping on his firing from Arkansas. Apparently he was conciliatory but didn't want to talk about it as much as they did. He still begged for an in-person interview and offered to pay for everything himself, which was refused.

AL.com: The job Bobby Petrino could not have

quote:

Auburn's search committee agreed to speak to Petrino on the phone, but the call was more of an interrogation than a job interview as the committee questioned Petrino's decisions, personal life and the circumstances surrounding his ouster at Arkansas, sources told AL.com. Petrino tried to explain himself, focusing on the future rather than the past. He was apologetic. He attempted to tell them he had learned from his ways and even offered to bring his wife to meet the committee in person at no cost to Auburn.

The committee had zero interest. Petrino hung up the phone knowing he had no shot at the job.

Days later, Auburn hired the other coach employed in the state of Arkansas: Arkansas State's Gus Malzahn.

Hopefully the change in President will mean a change in AD. Jay Jacobs is so incompetent it's baffling.

That's not true at all. Petrino was lobbying for the AU job in 2012. Petrino himself made it known he wanted the job.
