They have have caused us to play without the best player in the country.
I don't think they have done that. I also don't think that is enough based on the wording of the statute. A player eligibility ruling isn't a sanction on the school.

What's the SOL on this? I'm of the camp that I don't think they sue.

Well, this guy had numerous contacts with our athletic department, then hires one of the more prominent lawyers in sports....

Yeah, I cannot imagine any university wanting to have players make statements under oath an I am sure the defense would have quite the subpoena list.

It just won't look very good. I don't really blame UGA, but in the end, your star player getting tons of attention managed to sell autographs to a bunch of different people under your watch. What are you suing for?

I just don't think it'd be wise for UGA to draw a bunch of attention to the situation, although I don't expect anything too sinister would come out.

I only wish Gurley's suspension would have covered the Auburn game as well.

If it went through the AU game, I think he would definitely be gone.

Zero chance UGA sues. They got exactly what they wanted the rest is window dressing.

our AD is nothing but a bunch of pussies and brown nosers, we've seen time and time again the "don't ask, don't tell" method is practically fool proof. Yet we prefer to employ the "ask constantly, report immediately to the NCAA" strategy and look where it gets us.

Yea this is what my UGA buddy is pissed about. They aren't going to catch you, honestly I don't think they want to know, so there really is no reason to self report.

they don't want to know. They don't care. They know that shite goes on at every program in america, it's easier to just ignore it.

Yet UGA offers it up to them on a platter. Then what are they supposed to do? The NCAA didn't come looking for UGA, we reported to them first. When it gets to that point, they basically have no choice but to punish, otherwise they look like they're enabling the behavior. And UGA has done it multiple times. It's infuriating.

They were left with no choice. Bryan Allen went to the media and fired off emails to sbnation among others with his name in the email.

When you have a whistleblower....it is no longer a convenient denial.

A part of him has got to be like, "FU NCAA, I'm going straight up pro now", which would be beneficial in avoiding any chance of another injury occurring.
However, he knows he's the heart and soul of his team, and he doesn't want the NCAA to take anymore away from his season than they already have.
Either way, the NCAA is utterly ridiculous, needs to be reigned in, and so-called rules altered, IMO.

This.

But, honestly, it's been in their DNA since Jan Kemp. They have a quick twitch to over react to every impropriety that occurs. Not saying that what went on should have been swept under the rug or minimized, but they've played their own executioner too.

They didn't mention Gurley by name, but I believe somebody on reddit mentioned a while back that some Heisman candidate was about to get busted for selling autographs. The story would have likely come out no matter what Georgia did

it wouldn't have come out if he had only exclusively signed for BA. That's where this entire thing started, because he was a whiny bitch that gurley started signing stuff for other people. He coudl've kept signign and getting paid for BA only and nobody would've ever known.

This and after been counseled on a number of occasions about the consequences. Gurley obviously doesn't give a shite.

Careful bro....that is what got Bama in trouble. A stupid litlle infraction can turn into "lack of institutional control" if you don't self-report. Better to self-report and take a slap on the wrist than to blow off the NCAA and get hammered for not complying.

UGA didn't self report. They self reported after they were painted into a corner and had no choice.

This suspension is bs. Gurley has to sit while tpos's like Rapeis Winston and Karlos Williams get to play. I guess accepting money for autographs is worse than accepting money for autographs plus destroying windows with bb guns plus yelling vulgar, mysogynistic comments in public plus theft of crab legs and soda plus sexual battery of women. It's also apparently worse than beating up one's pregnant girlfriend. The moral of the story for UGA (and everyone else) is to lawyer up and deny everything.

Not a chance Auburn makes it through the rest of the season unscathed, so I would say it's a play-in game for you guys as well.
