Sure. Arkansas ranked #2 in the SEC in Offensive Yards per play... Georgia ranked #5. Now put the offensive and defensive numbers together to see which teams were the best at out-gaining their opponents per play

Because we played the same opponents last year

How about:
"We expect to see our defense improve significantly from last year, thanks to a stronger focus on that side of the ball."

or how about the actual full quote

quote:

My No. 1 goal, is to get our defense to play Top 10 defense. It's not offense. It's not 'this or that.' It's for us to play Top 10 defense," Malzahn said. "The way we're going to be good for a long period of time is defense, and that's just the bottom line. That's a focus in recruiting.

Until November we had a very highly ranked offense in both yards and efficiency. Harris got hurt against Bama and shite fell apart. So yea

Before November the only team with a pulse on defense you played was Florida. After November 1 you played
Alabama
Arkansas
Ole Miss
Texas A&M....so, I don't think it was Harris getting hurt that made your Offense go sour on you. You started playing teams with pretty good defenses.

Do you not realize that's the same thing? You seem to be having a lot of trouble with this very simple concept.

Right.

Constantly telling people "I'm going to be #1" and then failing is definitely a better look.

Umm, lol. so aiming low is the same as aiming towards what you think you can achieve?

There is an old mad tv skit about this

if you think these are the same then you certainly have a shitty life philosophy

If you dont aim high, then you will never get there. Again this is mantra for pretty much the entire successful world. if you dont believe it, then you better reeducate yourself about the business and general world

I wasn't expecting Steele to produce well after LSU struggled in '14 in defense

LOL We had a top 10 defense in 2014 and returned our entire secondary, Kendell Beckwith, and Godchaux.

He brought our passing defense from 4th overall in the country to 65th with essentially the same personnel.

Ehh, Our pass D was awful. The only thing that saved us was that their playing calling sucked and a little bit of Steele.

Bottom line is that he's trying to get it accross that he believes in Steele and the defense and he's talking to a crowd that he knows expects him to talk in a certain manner.

He's not addressing SEC media days, SEC rant, or the Athens post herald or whatever you've got there.

It's not his fault that you don't like it and it's only his consequence if it backfires. So if he's fine saying it then what does it matter to you as a UGA fan? I know you're not aiming to be objective here but clearly it hasn't hurt his Job status previously.

It was all him and not the players or their positional coaches. We got it, LSU fan

Dig through every post I've made and tell me where I've said anything about aiming low.

I said "promise" low. There is most certainly a difference.

Promise means guarantee. Just FYI.

You don't guarantee you're going to be the best at everything, do you? I hope not because you will look more foolish than you already do.

Yeah, and you ended up 54th in scoring D and 71st in total D, lost 6/11 starters, and objectively downgraded at defensive coordinator.

They return very little of their defensive output from last year, but maybe that is a good thing because they were an abomination.

While true, they did pick up some pretty good guys in recruiting, and they will have Carl Lawson back healthy. If he can stay healthy he will make a big difference. If Lawson stays healthy you will see a much improved Auburn defense.

The only difference in our passing defense was him. Players and position coaches stayed the same.

His zone scheme was laughably bad. We had the horses to pay man like we did the year before, but brainiac Steele put in a terrible zone that neutralized our talent.

He made bad decisions over and over and over.

You can spin it however you want. You said it wasnt smart for him to say that. He said it. Then got his contract extended.

One could suggest that he knows how to work his situation.

It's great that Saban or whoever undersell and over deliver but Gus clearly knows that his situation is different.

Call that what you want on Auburn's end but it has done nothing but help Gus personally

I promise you, folks in the West Georgia Auburn Club in LaGrange are old farts that LOVE talking about solid defense. They've missed the AU defenses of old and they love hearing that their offensive minded HC is focused on the freaking defense.

You tell the crowd what they want to hear at events like this.

lol wtf man

someone actually goes and digs up stats for you of Steele dropping 60 spots with the same players, and now you wanna blame the position coaches?

Oh so if they are different, then all your points in this thread have no bearing on it.

Again successful people do this. if you dont think so, you are very naive.

BTW, Gus didnt promise anything. again its a goal

It was both. Harris was probably about 75% and couldn't run or plant and throw like he did earlier in the year, but he also shite the bed hard against the better defenses. They definitely flustered him.

We got it. You literally are incapable of providing anything refreshing and nobody is asking you to. None of the Auburn fans expect Steele to be great.

Gus is telling a rah-rah crowd of only Auburn people at a May auburn club meeting that he expects a top 10 defense. Given the circumstances it's only a big deal to SEC rant posters
