the issue at Alcorn had way more to do with trying to maintain a subpar backwoods way of doing things. The SWAC schools are a lifeboat for underperforming black coaches because the expectations aren't that high there. They felt their "livelihood" is in danger. That's why they were outraged. Not because the Alcorn coach is white.
If he does well then all the SWAC schools will want to follow this pattern. Then the old guard SWAC coaches will be busted back to JC/HS ranks

It was not a hit piece. It was what happened. And, it was a big deal.
I am a born and raised Southerner, but honestly, I get pretty sick of white people saying that we should shut up about it because all of that is behind us and we aren't that way anymore.
White people in the South have been saying the exact same thing since around 1965. And, the idea that that generation didn't know any better is completely bogus. They knew better. They just convinced themselves that the rest of the world was wrong and they were right.
It comes down to only a few options when you look at all of our schools and the South back then. And, yes, I am talking about my parent and grandparents. Either,
1. We were stupid and didn't know any better.
2. We were a pathological society that was incapable of knowning right from wrong.
3. We knew better but didn't care because it benefitted us and as soon as it didn't benefit us, we stopped.
4. We were so prideful as to think that even though we were wrong, we were above it all because we were the glorious South.
I'm no carpetbagger. My ancestors fought in the Civil War and owned slaves. But, at some point, we need to recognize that talking about this is not bad. It is healthy.
Actually, everytime I hear a White person get upset because this stuff gets brought up, I know I am dealing with someone who does not want to deal with what has happened and the real implications for today.
Excellent analysis.

Like I said, it's resistance to change. They didn't wanna rock the boat.

Hell after watching that about Alcorn St on ESPN I knew how some white people felt about a group of people representing them. Hell ESPN even interviewed some black professor, he said some shite about "OUR history, culture, etc.". You can tell he was a bit racist.

people in TX evidently see all Mexicans the same. The way it compares is that TX is no paradise of racial harmony.
I'm calling you out. That is total bullshite. absolute horseshite. Most of Texas?

My girlfriend is from Texas and though this is a very bold comparison, there are similarities. Though not to the same extent by any means.

Horse shite, I'm from the valley and essentially consider myself Mexican FWIW, you can't paint people with a broad brush.

Ross Barnett Reservoir
It's a large body of water with alligators named after an awful human being. They need to rename it.

I'm saying the people in TX that you could qualify as "racist" tend to view Mexicans in the same light as southerners whose hate is directed towards black people. Either way they are both racist. I was just offering objection to a Texan saying that Mississippi is different. He implied Texas does not have that issue. I have seen from personal experience that they do

There absolutely should be.
That was an evil human being that deserves nothing to be named after him unless its something terrible like a prostate exam. The Ross Barnett Exam.

They should call it what it is. The Pearl River Reservoir. But then all the people in Flowood and Madison county wouldn't like it because they would have to include "Pearl" in their location.
When you say you live "at the reservoir" it carries a certain degree of clout

Trust me. His brother was twice the SOB Ross ever thought about being.

Then rename it the Medgar Evers resevior.
The fact that SOB has anything other than the worlds largest shite named after him is just wrong. They left out how Barnett pulled that stunt during the Cuban Missile Crisis.
Fun fact, JFK had Oxford included in the possible targets of the Soviets.

"You can take the girl out of Pearl, but you can't take Pearl out of the girl." I didn't understand why people made fun of Pearl until I had to go to a wedding there last year. Now I do.

It's Medgar Wiley Evers. Get it right. After all, they're going to spend a ton of money to change the airport name.
