I wish Georgia Tech had stayed in the SEC and kept the Auburn - Tech rivalry alive.

They are certainly good enough to be competitive in the league.

Was it a wise decision to leave?

No and neither was Tulane's.

Yes. I am an engineer. Tech gives the south a legit engineering program, and one that is on par with Stanford, MIT, etc. You can come see your old rival at AU if you want to watch football. I mean, I think AU's engineering program is top flight, but it is not Tech's.

3 NCAA MNC's under 3 different coaches is pretty impressive and they did it as a member of the SEC makes it even more impressive.

No

I was much younger when the Wramblin Wreck was still in the SEC and the only winner of Tech going to the ACC was UGA. Tech was already a good academic and the ACC does not have a CIC to help member schools so it is not like the ACC is all academic. Hell UNC has recently shown us just how hollow their academic street cred is and now Tech has Taterheads and Free Shoes to drag down their academic profile. Now they let the Line Beards in so the dum dum curve has taken yet another dip.

Dodd and others at Tech later said leaving the SEC was a dumb move for a smart school.

Back in my day it was just Tech. Vandy has some good ENG departments but they were no Tech or Purdue. When looking at ENG schools back in the age of dinosaurs Tech was pretty much it in the south. I like Auburn but saying they are anywhere near Tech in ENG is sad or misguided.

Now I must go shower for having to defend Tech.

They don't have to be mutually exclusive. Miami is an excellent school in a p5 conference...they just have guido douchebags as fans, rather than as students.

Your fanbase is getting old and dying.

Pajeeb the incoming freshman from overseas doesn't give a shite about your football team.

Depends on what someone is looking for. I believe many employers would rather an Auburn grad vs Tech when one is talking about bachelor graduates. GT probably more prestigious for research and advanced degrees though.

I could have gone to either school and am glad I chose AU.

The vast majority of Tech's fans are happy we're in the ACC. We can be competitive in football and basketball (over the long term) without having to compromise our academic standards. We also know we will never compete head-to-head with UGA for fan base or athletics revenue.

I just checked out their athletic facilities. Damn, Tech would kill for some SECN money right about now.

I remember Tech used to have such a good baseball program. I could see why they're slipping with that shithole

This is a completely clueless post - the football, basketball, baseball, softball, swimming, volleyball, and tennis venues (plus the indoor football facility) have all been built or renovated in the last 15 years.

Is this your way of admitting that you forfeited games because of playing academically ineligible players in the short term?

Or, that you (like all programs) accept athletes who would not be accepted into your school if it were not for their athletic scholarship? You know... another short term compromise.

They've also won more national titles in football and been to more Final Fours in men's basketball than Georgia.

Well FU is back to suckage in all sports. Of all band wagons to jump on you pick Tech??
