And Dodd cried like a girl when a Bama player broke some bones of one of his daughters on the team.
He was all about how football was supposed to be played by just touching people out or tagging them out and thought the SEC was too rough.
A couple of elephants tried to send a couple of bees to a watery grave and this lady pitches a hissy fit about it.

Speaking of, how does LSU's engineering program overall stack up these days?
When I was there (long time ago) PETE was world-class of course, and I think Chem E was considered decent, but the rest was pretty mediocre.
Still the same?

Growing up as a teen in the 1960s I can remember vividly the SEC with Tech and Tulane as members. Tech was a storied program and a powerhouse til late 1960s.
Academics was a large reason for both schools to leave the SEC. Tech has always been an engineering school and couldn't sign the borderline recruits.
The hatred between Bama & Tech was real and Bama would have been blasted in this age of instant social media. Tech wasn't the only school protesting Bamas dirty hits and shady recruiting. Even Vandy protested to the SEC for the "sleeper" play (a WR would appear to be heading toward the sidelines and would fly downfield within inches of the out of bounds line...Vandy did get the SEC to insert new law outlawing it.
Bryant was the sly dog and would do anything to win. He was tough as nails and I respect him for that. Players had to bust their azzs and show him that they wanted to play...no coddling.
This was in the days of punting on third down sometimes if you were backed up on the field and yes, Bryant did that more than a few times. I can recall the game he had with the girls school in the early 1970s when they were a joke and couldn't win a game...Dr Mudra was the HC at Tally and he coached from the press box btw...anyway, the girls school had Bama on the ropes 3-0 I believe and then finally wore down the girls school some late in the game..Bama scored a TD and then next possession found themselves backed up inside their own five yd line...on fourth down Bryant had his punter run out of the end zone to make 7-5 or something like that.

The vast majority of Tech's fans are happy we're in the ACC. We can be competitive in football and basketball (over the long term) without having to compromise our academic standards. We also know we will never compete head-to-head with UGA for fan base or athletics revenue.
I would want Tulane and Tech in the conference strictly for the academic notoriety.
SEC wold get a lot more respect academically.

I am sure you do. Not being in the SEC has hurt Tulane way more than GT
