maybe more proven because other guys didn't play

Bingo, id rather have someone who proved himself against a "weak" part of the schedule (including the SEC champion, the SEC East champ, and USCe who you lost to) than someone who's never played at all.

And while he has thrown 1 more pick than TDs in his career, he threw 9 TDs last year to 6 picks, and you can't just ignore one important metric of a Dual threat QB, and that is the 8 TDs he rushed for last year.

But go on and keep trying to say trotting out a brand new QB is somehow better than someone who has experience against SEC competition

I have no idea how good Iowa's D is but he looked like shite against the only good D he started against (Mizz)

He didn't have the best stats, but we had a ton of WRs out with injuries, a patchwork O-line against a hoss d-line, and our defensive leader was sidelined(huge distraction in the weeks before the game). Not to say this is an excuse, but he wasn't playing with a full deck. Will be much different with some RB depth, a ton of WR returning to full strength, and another year of work for our o-line

If that's the case then no freshman is ever better than a senior. I know you're not that obtuse. UGA's guy could very well be worse than Dobbs, but it won't be because Dobbs "lit it up" against Iowa and Kentucky.

I see what you're saying and yes obviously some freshmen come in and light it up, but in the vast majority of first time starting QBs, it usually takes at least few games under their belt to get settled in. Dobbs has already got these "jitter" games in so we'll have much more consistent QB play out of the gate which is advantageous with us playing 4 big games in the first 6 games (including 2 division foes).

yea I just know I haven't heard a lot of positive comments about your QB's, which is kind of the opposite of what we are hearing out of Mizzou's camp right now. Not necessarily about Mauk, but more about the guys behind him.

True freshman Drew Lock has barely set foot on campus, but the accolades as "best player in the state" are already starting to show, as the "kid is the real deal" quotes have already begun. Either way, he simply won't play this year if for no other reason due to the good QB depth in front of him.

Marvin Zanders, has shown the ability to throw the ball at least pretty well, really better than expected, and with his legs, is easily the best dual threat QB in the bunch, with him we may have another Brad Smith on our hands. But he is unlikely to get a chance to play this year anyway, because..

Eddie Printz, has 2 full years in the program now and before Lock showed up was the best "looking" QB in the system, tall, strong armed and accurate with a good throwing motion, it's hard to believe that if Mauk could win 14 games in less than a season and a half, Printz couldn't do the same.

Now to Mauk, all three of the previous QBs have put up better stats than Mauk in the first scrimmage, and at one time or another for the ones not named Lock, in previous scrimmages as well. That would include Corbin Berkstresser who is still in the program after what seems like forever, and has one Div1 win under his belt vs Az St.

Maybe Mauk will improve or maybe he has reached his ceiling, we don't know yet, but Mauk is no "natural" at the scheme part of the game, he constantly ran the play clock to zero last year, if not taking a delay of game and struggled to make reads through much of the season. His questionable "running backwards" and inability to just throw the ball away at need, consistently cost the offense yards. In spite of all that, he has good long ball accuracy and a "know how to win" mentality.

While I would seriously hate for it to happen, with Lock on the horizon, Eddie Printz(from Marietta,Ga) may be looking for a place to transfer next year. Either way, should be interesting..
