He was there. He attended classes. He went back. He cares about the school and the program. Not sure why any of that bothers you. It would probably be a good idea to move on, dude. It's not that important, I promise.

as for the OP
quote:

Gene Chizik, what really happened?

Gene started taking advise from those on staff whose opinions shouldn't have mattered/carried as much weight. I'm not yet convinced Gus is going to be a great HC, but he is an incredible OC and was instrumental to Chizik's success at AU. For whatever reason, Chizik got more involved in the O in 2011 and started listening to others over Gus (who wisely saw writing on wall and bounced out). Combine this error in Chizik's judgement with his staff along with the way he allowed the team to be undisciplined and his complacency after 2010, and you have a recipe for disaster.

how could a coach actually win a national championship then be fired two seasons later

The difference between Cam Newton and the combo of Barrett Trotter/Clint Moseley was too much to overcome. Their QB play from 2011-2012 was some of the worst by a Big 6 team in a loooong time. I don't care how good a coach is (and Chizik wasn't), he won't survive more than 3 years with bad QB play.

Side note: In my freshman year at Kent State, they went on the road to open the season and absolutely slaughtered Iowa State. After that, I never had a clue how he got the Auburn job.

A lot of that, especially 2011 was the loss of a great offensive line in 2010. Obviously Cam was the linchpin, but that OL was a huge help. There's no way Cam would've had the same results in 2011 with that young OL blocking. But that OL took their lumps and were pretty damn good in 2013.
I think Trotter was a pretty decent QB, but he got beat to shite so badly early on, he was never the same.
Mosely and Frazier were garbage.

Everybody lost to Brett Favre Southern Miss, including Bama.

But y'all also lost to Southern Miss in 2000.

So Auburn hasn't lost to a mid major in 25 years since one had a HOF QB that beat everybody.

Bama has lost to 5 mid majors in the last 15 years.

Does this help you sleep at night knowing you're second fiddle in the state?

If so, kudos.

Some coaches just make better coordinators.
Like Kiffin, Chizik is in that boat.
If UNC gets better on defense that is a team that will have to be reckoned with.

Hell, Bama fans would have sucked any of the three Mike's dicks for similar results in a six year period.

You're making a poor attempt to redirect.

This isn't about what Bama fans would do to duplicate Bama's success - that's stupid.

It's about what AU fans would give to duplicate Bama's success.

The 2012 Iron Bowl had to have been the most embarrassing moment in Auburn history. They might as well have been a high school team, we absolutely skull fricked them and their team laid down and took it. When your starters sit after the first series of the 3rd quarter, that's total anal annihilation you just inflicted on an SEC team! Had to be utterly shameful to be a tiger fan that day. 49-0 LOL

If Saban was keen on keeping the foot on the gas, that game would have been Fran's A&M vs Oklahoma bad. We could have easily set the record for most humiliating loss in AU history.

Auburn fans owe a debt to Nick Saban.

The closest they came was being beaten by the poor man's Tim Tebow..... Matt Grothe; fresh from C-USA, into the Big East, South Florida, marched into Jordan Hare and left with a W. To Auburn's credit, the Bulls would peak in 2007 at #2, but would end the season with a handful of losses and a beatdown in their bowl game. A flash in the pan.

Oh, Tubberville, you could piss me off so goddam much.
